i work for a callcenter and i'm a nursing graduate. i accepted the job offer just for the experience. but my main reason was to enhance my communication skills. it's also nice to have a customer-service related experience in my resume once i apply for other jobs in the future (if ever dili jud ku mag-nurse). the pay is ok.. diri sa among cc dili kaau ing-ana ka daku ang sweldo but it's ok because the workload is not as demanding as other bpo companies.
i would just like to give my opinion on the points discussed on this thread related to callcenters..
1.) with my cc job, i learned basic computer and internet troubleshooting. lagpas kaau sa akong course noh? but my point is, you cannot say that learning does not occur in this field. common sense lang sad.. how can you help your customer if you're not even knowledgeable in your line of support? in our company, they even train employess for certifications. that's an advantage.
2.) i'm now more confident with my english communication skills. i'm not saying it's perfect now, but at least, i can say that i have improved from before. it helps to converse with foreigners all night long. you get to be familiarized with their expressions, accent and idioms, which i think is an advantage once you decide to work abroad in the future. then again, there's still a difference with talking face to face and on the phone but still, you're improving.
3.)health related problems? it's just a matter of time management and how well you adapt. i work nightshift. true, this has been the biggest struggle for me but, in the end, it's how you value your health that matters. you can have a regular day job and eat unhealthy, still you get health problems. you can work nightshift and smoke like a chimney and have 'inuman sessions' after your shift then
thats when you get health problems! if you just get ample rest during the day and avoid "laag2x" unless it's your day-off,you should be fine. just monitor your lifestyle. plus, it's not the only job that has health problems. in fact, i think nurses are more prone to health issues than cc agents, not to mention they work in shifts too.
if i just compare my nursing days with my cc experience, haya-hay ra kaau ku diri. pag student nurse naku, shifting sad, exposed paku sa lain2x sakit, alimuot ang hospital, walay internet! hehehe. karon.. lingkod2x ku ug comfy chair, AIRCON ug unlimited internet.
5.) the culture in bpo companies? well i can only speak of my experience. i do not know with other big companies but here where i work, the people are simple and ok. of course there's office politics but isn't that anywhere? cc or not? i must agree, most of my officemates smoke but then that's a personal preference. promiscuity in the workplace? umm.. for the most part, it's bull. but hey, an easy girl and an easy boy can easily score! kung bigaon jud ka, aw bigaon jud. anywere you go. callcenter or not.
the disadvantage i experienced while working here is my lack of social life na jud. less time for family and friends. i try so hard nga naa jud ku time for my special someone. hehehe. sometimes i miss big events like party, debuts and weddings. biggest downer is when i missed sinulog because i was working. but dili jud unta ku laagan. sometimes lang nindot ilaag nya dili kalaag tungod kay work. that's why i can say this job is not really for those na hilig ug nightlife unless you are willing to give up that lifestyle. so pasabot, sa CC naa kay kwarta, pero walay time ilaag. kung wala sad sa CC, naay daghan time ilaag, walay kwarta. so.. opportunity to save jud ni diri!!!
but one thing i know, i'm not gonna last here. i don't intend to stay here for long. like what i said.. it's just for experience and i hope to find better opportunities in the future. this is honestly a dead end job, in my opinion. maximum time na gi saad naku saku self na mag CC is 2 years. jumpstart lang sa savings bah.

afterthat, ngita naku work na lain.. bahala gamay sweldo.. pero mas nindot jud kung daku!!!
