ang redundant link magamit na as backup sa imong main link, incase mo fail ang connection sa main link ang backup or redundant link ang mo take over.

hint: kung ang imong switch be it managed or unmanaged is only 10/100 mbps, dili gyud na siya mo hatag ug output nga mas taas pa ana.

kung gusto ka ug taas ug data-transfer rate, go for gigabit switches, mao sad lagi mahal gyud ug gamay.

    bai,

if you use the wired system, you will have a faster connection speed from my experience. but if you plan to connect 40 computers together, let say for an internet cafe mas mau ang manage swithch. i compared my pc with a 256k, 512k, 1mb nga ddr ram pareho ang processor to access the internet, mas kusog gyud mo open ang 1 mb compare to that of the 256k.
but for data i guess 256k would be your base line.
as for Access points and wireless Mau lang na if kusog imo AP's around 200Mw and a High gain antenna. Usually linksys and other brands operate at 100 Mw lang and hinay ang db gain sa ila antenna. Ok lang kung within office. Point to point lets say between two buildings mga 2-5km apart the most you get will be at 11Mbps.

    Default networking questions

i networked 5 computers and my problem is whenever i turn the firewall on on each computer I cant access them anywhere. I have managed it before to have it all firewalled and still can access the 5 PCs. the 5 PCs connected to a hub switch then to a modem...

all PCs are COMPAQ and Intel P4 2.4 GHz...

pls do help me... i want the computers to be secured at all times.

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Speed of the Switch can go 100mbps, 1000 mbps or 1g and 10G
Most intallation today is @ 100mbps, 1000 mbps is commonly use to connect server in the network or
cascading switches from main switch (Core) to the Distribution switch.
But it would all depend on your requirement if your tranfering data files like documents xls,doc etc. i'll
addvice you to do it 100mbs but if your tranfering mpeg, files drawing(big file format) use 1gig. But also
be carefull, also try to look what information you goin to pass in the link, example you are trafering a data file like doc in you network, you also run video conferencing, Voice application like softphone and things of the same nature.. your 100mbps is not enough.. in short think first how much data size are you planning to
run in you network then decide wether you go 100/1000mbps,

    - For the wireless

Today speed of the wireless is incresing they can go to 100+ mbps but there are some concern first its expense, since you have to consider the singal strength of you accesspoint and if you gonna implement a 100+mbps wireless you need a special card for it to run at the same speed (Client Side)..
Again... In short think first how much data size are you planning to run in you network then decide wether you go 100/1000mbps, and also think about the investment.

    2. You can actually use Cat5e cables but i sudgest for better quality use those branded ones like (Panduit ot Seimon) since some cable dont pass standards during testing. Gagabit copper can go up to a 100 meters but base on the standard 90 meters is being practice to a sure quality. (since we still have to consider the patchords lenght). in fiber optic gigabit installation 5km is on stard using singlemode.

    3. For the solution wether its wireless or wired this is ; consider the ff:
    - the data you want to run in your network.
    - and the budget.

for me if it is 40 nodes in one single building wired will be the best solution no problem with speed capacity and the cost..
