by all means get the 7D if you can afford it...syempre!
also the 15-85IS is way better than the 18-135IS optically how ever much more expensive pud...
if budget is tight get the 17-70 2.8-4 with stabilizer from sigma its so much cheaper with very good optics(better than 18-135). remember 2.8 is the faster zoom usually starts at 50k this is less than half that. macro pud ni siya .22 ra ang iyang min focus distance. and naka hypersonic motor pa gyud. similar to USM sa canon for faster quiet AF.

i have all 3 of these lenses at gizmo drop by try it out, im sure ma impress ka sa 17-70 for its price

    here are samples sa 17-70
    http://pliki.optyczne.pl/sig17-70OS/sig17-70_fot00e.JPG
    Camera: Canon 50D
    Parameters: 28 mm, f/4.5, exp. 1/160 s, ISO 100

    http://pliki.optyczne.pl/sig17-70OS/sig17-70_fot00h.JPG
    Camera: Canon 50D
    Parameters: 70 mm, f/5.6, exp. 1/160 s, ISO 200

also i wouldnt get the 270ex though...hold off on that to get the 430exII or di866 instead...even the Di622 for less money would be a more powerful flash and better performance plus af assist beam

It all boils down to whether you have the money or not. 7D is definitely better than the 550D. However, 550D is not called a 'baby' 7D for nothing.

Some people (like me), can't afford a 7D or lets just say refuse to spend for a 7D. So xxxD cams are perfect for us. However, you seem to have money to burn. I suggest going for xD cams then. Heheh.

nakapalit na ang TS ani? hehe. 7D jud bro if kaya sa budget. utong lang gamay. ayaw sa na mga accessories. kit lens + 7D, the best bisag newbie. but if d kaya, 550d is ok lang man pod. so if gagilok na jd ka for a dslr, then go for 550d. then later if dili na makacompensate ang 550d sa imong kaanad, upgrade napod. basin during ana na time, naa nay mulabaw sa 7d. 7D mark II ba kaha or 5d Mrk III. nya makaaffor na "ta." hehe. God bless sa incoming addiction. weeeeeee!

Let me approach this from a newbie standpoint. and a newbie na "sumhanon" as you put it. First off I'd want to know if I really want to carry around a DSLR. Looks nice and feels great in your hands but will you really use it. As Chase Jarvis puts it the best camera is the one you have in your hand. A 7d is a very expensive lesson and come to think of it so is a 550d.

My suggestion is get an el cheapo DSLR off of one of these buy and sell forums. get a decent lens or a bunch of decent lenses and shoot to your hearts content. After three months take stock and see what you've done with that DSLR. Are you shooting more than normal? Are your images substantially better than before? Are you focusing on the photography or the gear (in other words porma or results?)? Are you able to shoot in the places you want to shoot or are you constantly looking behind you to see who wants to steal your gear?
After that self evaluation you'll know a lot more about yourself and about what you want in a DSLR. You can sell the el cheapo body for pretty much the same price or a slight loss and get the 550 or 7D. Or you may decide gana gana ra diay to and give it up all together and buy an Lx3 instead.
that's my 2 cents on that

    +1 7D jud.
