I'm going to repost other people's opinions about this matter, opinions that I share.
    Enough said.

Opinions don't matter in science. Planes crashing because of bad engineering is not caused by religion or politicians. Your logic is flawed. A car killing it's passengers is neither political or religious. When both space shuttles blew up, it was neither political or religious. It happened because we reached the technological advancement for such tragedies to happen. How many car crash deaths happened in the middle ages? None. How many people died from plane crashes in the 1700s? None. Your analogy with science and guns is similar to many of your other analogies ... misplaced. Your logic is neither original or sound. Unlike many people, I am not swayed by eloquent speech with logical holes ... no matter how eloquent. If you had Morgan Freeman read what you copied and pasted to me with cute pandas yawning on screen ... it would still not be logical.

Please name me a published and widely accepted study (complete with figures) that proves that science indeed has caused modern society more harm than good, thanks.

Sorry to butt in on your argument but allow me to throw your points right back at you.

In the 1700's how many people died from scurvy? How many people died from something as trivial as IBS? How many died from cholera? How many died from tuberculosis? How many died from smallpox? How many people had to suffer from atrophied legs because of polio? How many people died from the common cold?

Today, these ailments that used to have high mortality rates are now relegated to the OPD. You have science to thank for that.

The improvements made by science have fixed some age-old problems. However, the same advancements have also brought about new ones. As you said, these have been quantified and observed, but you conveniently left out the fact that the same observations have also been made on the positive effects of science.

It's simply absurd to say that things like car crashes are caused by science. What about human error? When a person trips on a rock, hits his and dies, you don't blame the rock - you chalk it up to a human mistake and maybe even bad luck.

My point is this. When used wrongly, science can take over our lives and wreak havoc - but only if we choose to let it do so. When we can't find that perfect balance, it's not science's fault. It's ours.

@diatabz @rodsky ... both of you don't get my point. You do not have top convince me that science has saved lives, because indeed it has. But both of you refuse to admit that it has also killed untold number of lives.

@diatabz ... when someone falls and hits his head on the rock, sure that is human error. That is nature at work. There is nothing natural about a high speed crash. I am not arguing that science has helped human kind. I am not defending an idiot's right to kill himself. What I am saying is that science has open totally brand new ways to kill ourselves, and it's not just fatal instant deaths. Heart disease is the biggest killer in the US ... the same science used by US food policy to make food cheap and abundant in the US is also the cause of the nation's biggest health crisis.

I'd like to share this well-made scientific moving diagram how it ends. Click here. This is not exactly how the entire universe ends but it shows the process everything in the universe undergo.

Personally, I do not believe this is the 'how' and most certainly the 'when' our world will end. As much as I love science since I was little, but I can also distinguish their own prophetic end-time themes so I have my convictions.
