this was done during my pre-theory days. i just attacked the reference material right away. but on the hindsight, and after reading about drawing techniques now, i think what guided me through was the checking of verticals and horizontals to at least get the proportions right. i started with the ball and just crossed my fingers that the rest of my drawing won't fall off the paper's edge. i was also more bent on getting MJ right than the other players with him. if you notice, the player's arm beneath MJ's groin is a bit wonky. that's because i didn't care about it anymore. but i would have probably corrected this during the painting phase.

i also concentrated more on getting MJ's likeness because i know most people judge the success of someone's portrait if they can recognize who you are painting.
