some of us filipinos would like the easiest way to life.. that is why we are suffering from poverty.. be it ROTC or any Government/Private Trainings and stuff, we tend to resist outrightly due to a lot of reasons such as, kapoy, init, maka luya, samok, walay ayo and the list goes on and on.. if we stick to this mentality and wont change our paradigm then so be it, and let us not complain and ask why we are suffering from poverty.. self improvement deals mainly on self descipline and positive outlook of life, and if we don't start the change from our very own self then we are not suppose to expect major improvement from our basic social institution to the national level of development.. we must adopt the changes needed for us to improve and develop individually and the nation as a whole.. ROTC is just a minute part of this national development, and if we can't accept ROTC how much more the rest?

It is just so easy to say it than to practice it...

Years back when ROTC was still in curriculumn, and when no one by that time disagreed by its existence, did our economy improve? Self resistance to it has some reasons esp to those directly affected by the mismanagement and corruption by some of the ROTC officers. This is a forum for pros and cons and not for instilling something that is of no use in this thread. Peace to all.

Your explaination is too far from the topic. PROGRESS is being attached to ROTC? Common, look at the progressive countries. Do they have this ROTC at school? I know that they have a military school for the people who wants to be involve in the military but the military subject is not compulsery like in the Philippines. Kung pugson jud ta, ay military nalang ta tanan. No more doctors, accountant, teachers, no more call centers, no more businesses. Everything is military. Sige ano?

    ^^ certainly..

...there's not just enough basis for ROTC to be compulsory.. and it's not that filipinos are complaining.. again as iv explained before, filipinos might have accepted the fact that ROTC is not of great use. unless if they make the training "real"..

you just didn't get my point bro.. and by the way I know of a very progressive country "Singapore" who's male citizens, even after school are still required by the government for National Reservist training, some of there are already working..

hey! who said that we should devote all our time for ROTC? are we doing ROTC everyday? Is the government forcing you to join military? I don't think so, if you do, then you must have been misinformed or you just didn't get it right..

as i've said, and you better get this right, ROTC is only pa part of National Development.. if you can't understand how is this so, then you need more understanding on National Development..

@ 7DMM Hehe sorry we started on the wrong foot. Reason why I was so negative in my previous posts because I sincerely believe this proposal isnt going anywhere so I did not take it seriously. I know personally these people who are proposing, their motives and I dont dont agree with them.

OT: 51st Batallion ka pre?? Under naka ni Lt.Col. Tomas Osmena?? hehehe

    @ ROTC should be voluntary.

Well thats what the current set-up we have right now. The reason these people wanted to have ROTC compulsory is because under the current set-up the roster of cadets have declined. I mean not only slightly decline and to say drastically decline is even an understatement. It has declined so low to the point of non-existence.

One of the reason, I think for this, is information disemenation. People does not exactly know what ROTC is all about. They dont know what their options after graduating from ROTC. They dont know that they can be in the Ready Reserves or go CAD. That they can take advanced ROTC courses and POTC to become officers in the Ready Reserves or even in the Regular Army if they go CAD(its called lateral entry in the PNP). Remember 70% of the officers in the AFP are ROTC graduates and not PMAers.
According to my "scientific studies" 80% of those who joined the Ready Reserves now does not even know at first, prior to joining, that Ready Reserves exist and that they are even eligible to join. They usually learned this thing from their friends who are already under the Ready Reserves. IF YOU GRADUATED FROM ROTC THEN YOU CAN JOIN!!! Like most people, you can only appreciate ROTC if you join the Ready Reserves or better yet go CAD. You can also join the NPAs or declare jihad to spice things up....

Why I dont agree with compulsory ROTC?
Its better to have 10 well trained, highly motivated ROTC graduates than 1000 half-baked, uninterested ROTC graduates. Plus, it is a known fact that this will be again a breeding ground for corruption. The never endless corruption. sigh....
