MAKATI BLOODBATH: MURDER CHARGES VS. BINAY
Makati City, May 15, 1998 - Murder and frustrated murder charges will be filed against outgoing Mayor Jejomar Binay and two others by the newly-formed coalition of three political parties in connection with the death of two supporters of LAMMP vice mayoralty candidate Bong Daza.
The two were stabbed dead by security men of Binay who attacked Daza's office right inside Makati City Hall on election day.
Facing the press yesterday as hey announced their unified stand against Binay were Nemesio "Toro" Yabut, LAKAS candidate for mayor; Nelson Irasga, LP mayoralty candidate, Roberto "Bobby" Brillante of LAKAS-Reporma, and LAKAS congressional candidate Rosemarie "Baby" Arenas.
They charged that the suspects in the killings were Lito Glean, chief security of Binay, and Monico de Leon, chief security officer of vice mayoralty candidate Ernesto Mercado.
As of press time, the Makati police had not arrested anyone for the killings. Instead, they arrested Vice Mayor Daza and charged him with grave threats and oral defamation.
Mayor Binay went to television to deny the involvement of his men in the killings.
