I cared for this boy at our ICU until he expired at the end of our shift because we couldn't do anything more...

Dopamine drip. Epinephrine drip. Nothing...

GCS of 3 when he arrived. What made it more tragic was that his lungs and heart were still very healthy but because of prolonged cerebral hypoxemia, he was already brain dead... Chances of him waking up were none...

He gave up after 2 days...

I couldn't blame Minglanilla District Hospital because I used to be a volunteer there and I attest the competence of their senior nurses and doctors.... Sad to say, they indeed lack the necessary equipments like an intubation set because the funds went to Garcia's igat-igat sa sugbo...

According to the child's grandfather, he tried to dislodge the bubblegum with his finger which we suspected, pushed the unchewed gum further down the airway...

After unsuccessful attempts at MDH, the child was brought to South General Hospital... The gum was removed but unfortunately, they do not have any available mechanical ventilator at that moment...

The child was later transferred to our hospital where he joined his creator on a Monday morning past 8am after 2 days of fighting for his life...

Naluoy ko sa iyang mama because she never gave up even with the doctors' grim appraisal of the child's status... She talked to the child like he would just wake up from the coma at any moment... Iya pa daw pa skwelahon...

You couldn't blame the parents because his father is an OFW while his mother was working at that time... Iya ra lolo gipa bantay and who would expect nga niay matuk-an 5 anyos ug bubble gum...

Wala jud ta ma blame ani... Aksidente lang jud ni... Sayang kaayo ang bata... Ang Ginoo ang g buot tanan...
