Philippine poll frontrunner Aquino says unrest possible if he doesn't win
MANILA : Philippine presidential frontrunner Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino has said that unrest is possible, if he doesn't win next month's election.
The 50-year-old, who is the son of former president Corazon Aquino, has led opinion surveys since entering the race last year.
Speaking in an interview in Manila, Mr Aquino said only fraud can stop him winning the May 10 election.
Mr Aquino has criticised how a switch to electronic voting machines is being implemented but said if the counting "is correct", he would win.
He added that if "the people's will is frustrated", demonstrations could make this month's protests in Thailand seem "mild" by comparison.
His mother toppled Ferdinand Marcos amid protests that followed a rigged election in 1986.
Mr Aquino's main opponents are former Senate president Manny Villar, and former leader Joseph Estrada.
