Poor or dirt-poor one thing is for certain he wasn't anywhere nearly as rich as he is today. His spectacular success deserves at least some admiration rather than envy from the crab mentality crowd. I really hate how we as a people keep equating wealth with evil and poverty with goodness. Some poor people are worthless human beings, same with some rich people. Look at the person, not the wealth.
