CARP reform advocates Sumilao Farmers back Noynoy Aquino and Risa Hontiveros
SUMILAO FARMERS PROCLAIM SUPPORT FOR RISA HONTIVEROS AND NOYNOY AQUINOThe Sumilao Farmers, known for their relentless pursuit for justice and advocacy for the reform and extension of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP), are once again taking a stand today as they endorse Akbayan Representative Risa Hontiveros’s bid for Senate.
Congresswoman Hontiveros, a staunch defender of human rights and critique against corruption, has consistently supported the Sumilao Farmers, among other farmers’ groups, through her privilege speeches, inquiries, legislative measures which reflect her unwavering support for agrarian reform.
Today, at 3:30 pm, Congresswoman Hontiveros will march with the farmers from Gaston Park towards Kiosko Kagawasan in Divisoria where the Liberal Party senatorial candidates, together with their standard bearers Senator Noynoy Aquino and Senator Mar Roxas, will conduct their last proclamation rally in Mindanao. The rally will start at 4:00 pm and is expected to end at around 8:00 pm.
The march is symbolic of the journey towards justice and reform through which Congresswoman Hontiveros accompanied the Sumilao Farmers. Upon the contingent’s arrival at the Kiosko Kagawasan, the Sumilao Farmers will also proclaim their support for Senator Noynoy Aquino’s presidential candidacy.
The Sumilao Farmers stand by Senator Aquino and will help carry him through his campaign against corruption and advocacy for reform. They trust that Senator Aquino, like his parents, Ninoy and Cory, will rise above personal and family interests and spearhead the completion of the agrarian reform program.
They are confident that under Senator Aquino’s leadership, the government could effect land distribution, efficient delivery of support services, and the institutionalization of the social infrastructure necessary for an effective CARP. The Sumilao Farmers note that among the presidential candidates, only Senator Aquino has expressly pronounced that he will be seeing CARP to its completion.
Despite the critiques and allegations against Senator Aquino in connection with the Cojuangco Family’s management of Hacienda Luisita, the Sumilao Farmers are confident that the former will help put a close to this matter through a just and legal resolution, in consultation with the Luisita farmers-stakeholders themselves. They are also hopeful that once elected, Senator Aquino will continue in his efforts towards improving the rural economy in coordination with, and not in disregard of, the agrarian community.
The Sumilao Farmers continue to stand by Senator Aquino and Congresswoman Hontiveros in their quest for the restoration of integrity in our national leadership and justice in society, and the institutionalization of good governance and accountability. They also vow to remain vigilant in fighting for farmers’ rights and for citizens’ rights to democratic participation.
Team Aquino-Roxas top Netopia mock polls
Aquino tops Netopia mock pollsWith 20 days to go before the May 10 polls, Liberal Party standard bearer Benigno “Noynoy” S. Aquino III is the frontrunner not merely in all national presidential surveys, he also leads in mock polls conducted by independent groups.
Aquino bested other presidential candidates again in the ongoing Netopia mock polls conducted in 125 internet cafes all throughout the country.
Aquino was selected as the nation’s next president by 42% of Netopia customers who answered the questions “Are you a registered voter?” and “Who will you vote for?”.
Former defense secretary Gilbert Teodoro was a far second with 21%. Senators Manny Bamba Villar and Dick Gordon were tied with 10% each; while 7% of the 444 respondents preferred former President Estrada.
Aquino’s running mate Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas was the choice of 48% of the respondents in the vice presidential race. Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay was at second place with 21%; former Metro Manila Development Authority chair Bayani Fernando received 14%; while Sen. Loren Legarda merely scored 6% in the survey.According to Robert Dequito, Netopia marketing and sales manager, the internet café chain carried out the mock polls to “show that Netopia was a viable market for surveys.” Dequito added: “Netopia has great reach with branches nationwide. It also has a market niche—the tech-savvy internet generation voters.”
