tucano is good no question about it, but the problem of single engine if it fails it falls to the ground while the OV-10 cans till glide even with one engine running, and most of all, why i consider OV-10 over a tucano, is that the ease of training for pilot and technician... remember the cost of ownership, tucano is good not feasible to us, well OV-10 was design first as FAC before it was converted into attack variant.... if not OV-10 i would go to T-33 Texan, why?, we already have those again the ease of traning and maintenance...

err, you can always eject the pilot.. problem is, nobody survived ejecting from an OV-10 since vietnam happened

for me, the super tucano is the Phils best bet if we want to secure success in our COIN operations

500 dollars operation cost per hour.. cheap acquisition price.. multirole capability, heck we can even use it as a turboprop fighter no wonder many countries are scrambling to acquire a fleet

ok ko sa imo choices except for the C130 gunship and the A-10.. for me, it's too fast for jungle COIN operations with all the trees and precise targets to hit which are too small.. nagreklamo man gani ang mga A-10 users sa irag ug a-stan that's why they're trying to go back to good old turboprop power..

i beg to disagree..naay isa ka pilot who survive when he/she ejected from an OV-10 living her co pilot dead when the latter maneuver the plane to a safe place outside residential area...i think it was on the new a couple of years ago...

OV-10's designed fits our requirements.... and we already have familiarity on it's engine so it would be much easier for the PAF technician to fix and mantain... no more training

The Super Tucano's Pratt & Whitney PT6 is the most ubiquitous turboprop engine in the world and has a well-deserved reputation for reliability. There shouldn't be a problem learning how to maintain it. Dozens of corporate operators in the Philippines already fly PT6-equipped aircraft like the Beech King Air series, the Twin Otter and Cessna Caravan.

Of course, acquisition cost is always a consideration. Upgrading the OV-10 might end up cheaper, and you get twin-engine redundancy.

But as a COIN platform, the Super Tucano kicks ass. Its reputation was considerably enhanced when word leaked out that the US Navy Seals wanted some.

AC-130 Spectre? Where are we going to get $200M to buy one?

yup sakto basic engine raman pud ang tucano.. it's not necessary to make rocket scientists out of our PAF mechanics to be able to maintain/repair it.. dali ra ang training ana basta packaged na, bright bya na sila, hehehe..

i think the US armed forces has a few tucanos for evaluation and testing, and they're considering it to be part of their AF.. blackwater and dyncorp (US private defense contractors) already has one unit each

oppss... its a jet trainer by the way, i must have mixed it up with another plane it was supposed to be T-6 Texan!!!, still it is still cheaper to invest on something that you dont need training....

for example:
AK-47 and M16, we used M16 because we already have the commonality and support for it, we didnt use Ak47 because, like i say opposite to what i say...

let's say, AK-47 is much cheaper than M16, since we dont have any machine for making the 7.62x39mm in GA, we are resulted in importing one... if it fails (even this is proven to be durable still i fails though rare) our gunsmith dont have the training, the result is outsource it to another Gunsmith which may charge higher, in case of M16, we already have the production line 5.56x45mm NATO in GA, we dont need to import, that would save us more, and our gunsmith are proficient with this gun so no need to outsource again we save more, and most of all the EASE of training, ever wonder why US didnt totally replace M4/M16 instead they upgraded it, simple it is a Logistical Nightmare, new ammo production, traning for the new weapon...

to make it simple, it is very practical to upgrade what we have than a new one.... why replace something that is working, upgrade!!!

really?, do you know sa imo gipang recommend is maka poordoy?, do you know how much is the cost of owning those bird? beside from the price tag on buying it... cmon guys.... lets be realistic... atleast when you recommend something you should have consider the cost of owning one , pilot training + technician + fuel + maintenance parts

during the marcos time we used to have the Spooky or the AC-47 it was used during the secession on mindanao
