Well it would only work if science fiction movies would be accurate enough (to a certain extent, not necessarily meaning that it should be 100% accurate), which, as the rest of the posts in this thread would indicate, is something either unwanted, "impossible" to do, or simply something too trivial (for others) to deal with. Right now, with all the inaccuracies out there, it simply won't work and will indeed lead to kids' skewed ideas about science and space exploration travel, something which I personally encountered as a teacher.

I was being sarcastic. But I guess that is what you implied. And I implied that what you implied is *****ic.

The actual want/need to have science fiction movies change just to accomodate my wish is indeed *****ic (because most probably, it will never happen), but I simply wanted a venue to express what I've seen happening around certain parts of this country. Let me be a ***** for wishing, and let me be an idiot for "using" this thread as a vehicle to express those facts/truths that I've witnessed.

there is truth behind rods' posts.
i experience it myself, not as a teacher, but as a student.

we can't change sci fi methodologies.
but we can lean into more informative medias.

No, that you wish that the rest of the world must accommodate your wish is not *****ic, it's delusional. What is *****ic is substituting ... nay ... EXPECTING to get an education from an entertainment medium is *****ic.

We have gone through this road before. There is a disconnect between you and reality. This disconnect is illogical and quite frankly, hilarious. For someone who champions science, someone who champions truth ... you frequently veer off into unexplainable, unrealistic fantasies. My friend, science is real. On the hilarious side, you want movies to be more accurate, to be more realistic, to be less fantasy, and more science ... when what you propose ... what you wish ... is something that is NOT accurate, NOT realistic, and IS fantasy, in a medium where science may exist ... but is entirely optional.

Do you not see the humor in your arguments that I must resort to sarcasm for fear of calling you names?

It is not entirely an impossibility, but I guess I'm in the wrong medium (i.e. movies). For wishing this trend to happen to movies, I now think you are correct and that wishing about it is futile. I shouldn't have chosen this medium, for all of the things you have mentioned and explained is indeed correct when applied to it.

I am involved in a community of people who use a software called "Orbiter", a space flight simulator. Prior to its inception/creation, there were no fairly accurate software to simulate Newtonian physics in spaceflight, and a lot of people thought it might be impossible. Microsoft, having gained a good foothold in the flight simulation arena, thought it could create one, but it too was a bit of a hack and it didn't gain much fans, partly owing also to some inaccuracies in its physics (naturally, since Microsoft was trying to sell it, since it didn't gain momentum, Microsoft discontinued it--Orbiter however, is 100% free).

But in 2000, a physicist named Martin Schweiger based in the UK, created Orbiter. At first it was quite crude, as in any new endeavor. But 10 years later, it's been one hell of a ride. Granted, it's not popular as Modern Warfare 2 or some other game out there (but then, it's not really a game), but it's a good example of how something "impossible" now has attained a good following and gracefully implemented Newtonian physics in a genre populated by "Star Wars" and "Star Trek physics".

I guess I wanted to find a parallel movement in movies, as what I have seen in the Orbiter community, and now I admit that my search for this parallel won't bear fruit--it is, as you have said, a delusional and unrealistic pursuit.

@lomotel: You're not the first person to say that. I've stated somewhere in this thread that a story can still be fiction in so many ways (made up characters, made up events in a made up history) whilst still having some parts of it that are accurate.

For example: a fictional story that has fictional characters experiencing real life problems that a lot of people face in the real world. Hence the problems are real, the characters aren't. It has accuracies, but it's still fiction.

Your statement, therefore, is very misleading; it could pass as smart at first glance, that is probably why people keep echoing the same thought, but actually nothing could be further from the truth.

    'Nuff said.
