i don't think that's a good option considering our relationship with america.

this is more on our relationship with the US defense contractors.. i don't think the US govt would get mad at us for buying slavic machinery.. the tension from the cold war has now thawed and relationship between moscow and washignton is now exceptionally diplomatic.. we bought thousands of AK-47's and russian-made munitions a few years back and they didn't even raise an eyebrow

do you know any company that is wholly owned by a Filipino that's involved in the development of our countries national security? i would like to make a list of them for a term paper.

we have ARMSCOR for pistols/ammo and Floro Mfg. for submachine guns

i hate to say this but Russian avionics is really inferior compared to western NATO standards..

A few years back I got to sit in the cockpit of a Mig-29. All the instruments, knobs and switches were in Cyrillic. But right on top of the glareshield, beside the gunsight, was a Made-In-The-USA GPS unit.

well anyways... we have plans before to get other military hardware from other country, but US always barred us from getting it, and stop giving military aide to us!!

i also remember before that the getting the F86 sabre before was not PAF choice but Uncle Sam!!

hopefully ma start na sa boeing sa OV-10X version!!!, same design but better avionics and powerplant!!!, hopefully naka FLIR na siya daan!!!

that's the problem with the US, they force us to buy their decommissioned military equipment (most of the time, overpriced 2nd-hand units with hardy any support available.. that's why we are forced to cannibalize other units for lack of spare parts.. this can be avoided if we buy current models which are still technically supported by their manufacturers

OV-10X? a super tucano can do the job at a fraction of the cost & maintenance.. if only our military brass can be realistic with their goals, "effective air defense irregardless of brand or make"

yes a OV-10X, super tucano is ok but OV-10 has long combat history under it's wing, and it's been proven in vietnam, and of course the south courtesy of PAF, thou most of the test subject never reported how effective it is! please read here for Combat aircraft: Cost of ownership , better reference for cost of ownership

OV-10's designed fits our requirements.... and we already have familiarity on it's engine so it would be much easier for the PAF technician to fix and mantain... no more training

i would still go for the tucano in light bombing and strafing missions.. with a few bronco's for larger payloads if needed.. the bronco is way too underpowered for the frame and the payload that it's supposed to carry that's why the PAF opted for a 4-bladed propeller, and this OV-10X program is not getting much momentum.. we might as well use it for recon duties

indonesia will be replacing it's fleet of OV-10's with super tucanos next year or so.. our neighbors definitely will follow suit with malaysia and thailand showing interest with embraer's COIN products. what's not to love? one of the smallest operating expense for a COIN aircfraft

tucano is good no question about it, but the problem of single engine if it fails it falls to the ground while the OV-10 cans till glide even with one engine running, and most of all, why i consider OV-10 over a tucano, is that the ease of training for pilot and technician... remember the cost of ownership, tucano is good not feasible to us, well OV-10 was design first as FAC before it was converted into attack variant.... if not OV-10 i would go to T-33 Texan, why?, we already have those again the ease of traning and maintenance...

getting a tucano is impractical for now!!!
