so what came first, the sci fi ideas or the science behind the idea to make it reality?

just basing this sa ako nakitan sa discovery sa sci fi science.

or just use the existing science concept to help the imagination of the scientist to make it a reality

the fact is that as people become more well-informed, they begin to be very critical to movies and eventually lose interest, that's the reason I rather stick to noir/gangster/cop movies instead of sci-fi movies. (Although i'm not claiming to be more well-informed than others).

But of course the majority of people are not that well-informed particularly in science. So for the movie to have the widest audience as possible and to ensure profitability, they gauge the intellect of the general public.

quoting Carl Sagan in his book "broca's brain".

"In the face of all this, many of the standard ideas of science fiction to me to pale by comparison. I see the relative absence of these things and the distortions of scientific thinking often encountered in science fiction as terrible wasted opportunities. Real science is as amenable to exciting and engrossing fiction as fake science, and i think it is important to exploit every opportunity to convey scientific ideas in a civilization which is both based upon science and does almost nothing to ensure that science is understood."

trampas bitaw to ang outbreak. nabuhi pajud si rene russo a few hours after capturing the chimp carrier and extracting the antidote.. after watching csi, the series made this movie lame. i have doubts csi is just too accurate hait ra kaayu ug huna-huna ang csi team. Hoffman should hire the mythbusters team. they are so cool

    love sci-fi movies...
    x-men
    fantastic 4
    iron man
    avatar
    the matrix
    star trek
    star wars
    e.t.

for entertainment purposes only... we all know that some, if not all, of the science behind it is "fiction", but hoping inside we might catch a glimpse of the future.
    and top universities/military R&D get most/some of their ideas/inspirations from sci-fi movies.
e.g. stealth, lasers, weapons systems, to name a few.

films are modern-day storytelling...as a storyteller you need to twist some of the facts to make your story more interesting...murag chismis gud...it is a tiny fact embedded with so many inaccuracies, and that's why it sells...storytelling, novels, television programs, films, sci-fi films are all different kinds of entertainment. if u want to be educated, if you want accuracy...go to the library, instead of the moviehouse. and if you are so worried that children as you say "kids nowadays tend to be led into pseudoscience because of some bad sci fi movies that tend to skew real science. And, what's worse, sometimes some really bad sci-fi movies even discourages kids to pursue science as a career because of how "immoral" or "evil" scientists are depicted in some of these so-called sci-fi films.--post#20"...that is where the parents come in. aren't these films rated "parental guidance"? or are you talking about the kids aged 18-35? heh!

Basing from the posts that I've read here so far, most you seem to live in a "ideal" world where parents actually have time to talk to children. Well, considering na you actually have time to log into iStorya.net, perhaps you are indeed well off (i.e. can afford to have internet at home, and a computer, etc.) and actually still have quality time to spend to correct whatever your children are fed in school or around the neighborhood. But I think you're the exception to the rule--you're children are lucky to have parents like you--other Filipino children are not as fortunate.

Yes, I'd have to agree, but do remember that the thread topic is on movies. Why not start your own thread that concern other media?
