what do u mean by "FREE"? and where is the "FREE" WiFi coming from? "FREE" for the public to use? or "FREE" coming from a neighbor?
my Campus, Library, Starbucks, has FREE WiFi internet and I can access them fine.

it could be that you are connecting to the wifi router but the router itself has no internet connection.

if you have a valid IP its most likely a problem with the router or access point.

if you are sure that you are connected to a network.. try to check ipconfig.. also try to ping a site.. if you get a reply... then reset your browser - go to tools/options/advance... or use alternetive browsers..

We are in hotel with free wifi, my notebook can connect and browse fine, but my officemates cant. Its the first time that they tried to connect to wifi.

@ coolnezz: using a network from a neighbor is never cool.

they probably need to setup their TCP/IP settings...
but it can be a lot of things why they can't connect....
firewall, tcp/ip settings, wpa settings, authentication, wifi card configuration, incompatibility, etc.
the best thing is to ask the front desk / reception for help in setting it up.

There are those who use security measures like you mentioned here. You can connect to the free wifi, thinking that you can browse the internet but you end up disappointed because you can't.

The reason behind this is that, in order for you to browse the Internet, your gadget's MAC Address should be registered in the connecting network in order for you to browse the internet.

In other words, bisan mag 24/7 pa ka ug connect sa free WIFI nila, pero wala gi.register ang MAC address sa imong gadget, dili jud ka maka use the internet.
