Get the lens that you can afford. If your camera has an in-body motor, then the 50mm will be as good as the 35mm. Let your imagination and creativity control the gear... "hindi yung lenteng gamit mo ang magdidikta kung magiging creative and outstanding ang composition mo".

Wag kng magpa-influence sa mga salesman dito sa forum na nagsasabi sayo na kelangan mo ng fast lenses tulad ng 70-200mm, 24-70mm na f/2.8; para maging maganda ang output mo. While it is true that these lenses can make your life easier as a photographer, they should NEVER be a limitation to your creativity and composition.

Get the 50mm... it's the best value for money nga prime lens. Just make sure na mag-AF sya sa camera nmo...

    HTH and God bless...

Ok ra ang 50mm if dili ikaw ang main shooter sa wedding and you'd only be shooting portraits.

@dan: I hope our answers are not confusing you which lens to buy. Each one of us has preferences. I prefer fixed focal length lenses myself. I agree that a 35mm on a crop would be the equivalent (but not exactly) of a normal lens on a full frame cam and it would definitely get the job done because it's a general purpose prime. Key phrase: general purpose (kung baga sa sakyanan, SUV?) but it can never replace a motorbike, a truck, a bulldozer, crane, plane, boat.

We're just saying that a 24-70 or 70-200 2.8 are usually used by pro wedding photographers. And yes, they also use primes as you can see in Lito's gear list. Go to Lito Inso - Capturing moments... Behind moments. -> Information -> Gears.

As you can see in this list, you have a lot of options:

Choosing a Lens for Wedding Photography – Stepping into Wedding Photography Part 2

Kani the best part sa above link and as proof, daghan ka nadawat lain lain tubag sa?

"The problem is, when researching how to invest that hard earned cash, you get a different answer from as many photographers as you choose to ask. The reason why is simple. There is no perfect wedding kit and every photographer will swear by this lens or that camera body."

Ha ha. Pero imo original need was a wedding portrait lens so the 50 1.8 tops the list and it's dirt cheap.

(newbie sad ko sharing my view ani) depende mas cguro na sa portraiture na imo buhaton i mean sa imo environment ba.. If say for example first nimu na wedding.. Dli ikaw ang main photog then for me lang prefer ko 85mm am on a fullframe body maybe a 50mm sa cropped depende sad ni unsa ka dako ang simbahan ug unsa ka ka layo.. for me the longer it is as a first timer the better..kay ma ulaw ko mag dagan dagan sulod sa simbahan to capture the moments that I like. maka sab an pakos a pari if magka lisod. If ikaw main photog. As a first time nimu mas maau cguro handa ka.. no need to buy i think maka renta ka lens ug 2nd body. 24-70 sa isa... 70 200 sa isa ka body.

If portraiture sa say studio then heck pwede ka mag dagan dagan dha sa sulod so pwede nimu i dul it maau sa face sa imo model or mo palayo ka ug mau.. wala kay ma disturbo... sa simbahan lahi na i consider sad nimu sa ceremony na.

    Just my 2 cents worth.
