Question about Silverstone ST50F-230 Modular PSU

bai ityan mas mahal jud sad siya kay newer siya... most likely ang mga bag-o kay sakaan jud na ug presyo nya hinay2x naog over time. also consider having the modular cables and the cost of those stuffs di sad sila pareha ug fan i think kay mas saba man ang usa. lahi sad sila ug version 2.xx nag lahi magka bag-o magka nindut kay ni comply man sila sa tech as of sa latest sa market na requirement.

@ TS: don't concern too much about this efficiency ratings...they are just numbers telling you how your psu operates at respective loads vis-a-vis the power it draws from your wall and the power it delivers to your components...

the MORE important thing is the one you don't see there bec. its often not included by the manufacturers: the PSU Derating Curve...the effects of temperature on the performance of the power supply...it is measured as Watts per degree. For example: "2W per 2°C" would be a "derating curve."... what this means is if a power supply was rated at 500W maximum sustained output at 20C, then it's maximum sustained wattage capability is reduced by 2W for every 2°C it's temperature is increased...so at 50C, the maximum sustained output of this power supply may only be 470W.

mao ni dako ug effect nato considering nga taas ang atong ambient temp & most of us are not using aircon most of the time nag gamit sa pc...

you can ask for the derating curve from FineUpgrades...i think they can get the info from Silverstone...ma-apil pud na sya in some reviews for psu...

btw...i have the same psu as yours...works as expected...just like my other 4 Silverstone psu's here...mao ni akong gipuli sa akong HEC Cougar 700w nga na RMA(thru PCQBuys) kai naka sunod sa akong 500GB Seagate sata2 + XFX mobo + Gigabyte G31 mobo...funny thing kai ni tawag ang technician sa distro sa HEC (PCTRENDS Manila) and iya kung gi-ingnan nga ok kuno akong psu nga gipa rma...2 hours na kuno niyang gi test running pa iyang system...suddenly ingon sya "hala umusok yung board" they sent me a new one(HEC COUGAR POWER 700W) after waiting for ONE MONTH & 2 WEEKS...i promptly sold it for 3k...

Anyway the ST50F & ST50F-230 are both in dual rail configuration. The single rail is the ST50F-ES. @ TS: if you want clarification on the topic you opened, don't worry i will ask the R&D of SilverStone on this matter...

@fineupgrades: ask lng ko whats the difference between the st50f and st50f-es aside from the rail config? why is the es cheaper? is the es older or newer than the regular (f)? and yes please do ask silverstone about this so we can have a clear and correct answer.

The ES version is the new offering from SilverStone on the 500watts level. Why is it cheaper, "maybe" because the OEM of this PSU is partly owned by SilverStone while OEM of the ST50F is FSP. Please check their specs nalang for comparison. The ES was made to cater those end users who need affordable PSU with quality & good performance.

@poldopunk could you connect your gpu's 6 pin on a single rail on the other psu? i dont think so, unless the circuitry is already joined together. as a single rail 32 amp is better to last long and not heat that much compared to a dual rail 18amps each, that is if you cant parallel the connection of the 12+ of the two rails.

how about those cards that require 25amps would it be wise to choose the dual rail or the single one with a total of 30amps? except cguro sa katong mga naay at least dual 6pin.

ara man sad na nimo makuha ang efficiency. kasagaran sa mga PSU na BRANDED ug 80%efficiency min. pinaka dako nila na efficiency kay naa sa mga 50%load overall. so if gi distribute nimo ang load which means mas higher imong efficiency kaysa focus sa 3v or maybe 5v or sa usa lang ka rail on a specific 12volt.

to answer your question bai, yes. i know for a fact that single rails are better because the amount of amperage supported can be maximized but DID YOU KNOW that multiple rails are not really multiple? they are virtual multiple rails but coming from one source only , designed to comply to intel's atx specifications. ang tinuod nga mga multiple rails, mao tong mga DC-DC PSU's.

FYI, when you speak efficiency, its not about the distribution of the rails, its the efficiency of the entire PSU ang advantage sa single rail is that you are not overloading that particular rail kung taas siya ug rating whereas sa multiple rails, naa chance na ma overload but then again, the distribution is only virtual and efficiency is calculated as a whole dili by rails.

ayaw palabi ug apas aning efficiency kay ang certification mismo, dili real-world environment. check the labels closely and you might find something surprising like 85% bronze rating on a 25c environment. do you think your PC is as cool as 25c? hell, no. if you want to learn more about PSUs with excellent efficiency, check reviews coming from jonnyguru and hardwaresecrets kay they test efficiency on a 50c+ na ambient temperature which is more realistic than what's written on the labels. k?

in addition to simoko's statement, you'll find power supplies the best when it comes to efficiency when they have this guarantee on their specs, example: 85% efficiency across 20% - 80% load at a certain temperature (40c and above is better).

a person/you will always have a different view on matters. bisag pag 2 ka taw nag-invent og usa ka butang, lahi-lahi gyud na nila pagdeliver/explain..

@poldo yes they all came from the same input that is the range of maybe 110 to 250 volts AC...
lahi2x man ang mga psu sakto na imo pero dili pareha tanan pero if naa juy maka trace sa psu na gi separate siya like single input to dual output or quad output just like audio amplifiers gani kanang mga daghan na channels nila para sad they each have their own supply to drive them also depends on the design.

i think pag kita nko sa review aning sa silverstone they were testing this from a 50c ambient temp correct me if im wrong kay nalimot ko unsa to na site thats why wa sad siya naka pasar sa 80plus certification kay i think ang certification kay kailangan 20% to 100% loading kay minimum niya 80. there are many ways of testing a psu for efficiency thats why if its rated 500 watts they should properly compute it to avoid overloading a certain supply.

usually ilang tagaan ug dako jud ug load kay 12volts kay that is where the juice comes out, its the highest voltage sa psu na gi sigi gamit sad so katong 3 ug 5 lower2x sila kay as far as we are in now majority sa mga systems nag agad sa 12volts tungod sa gpus, hdd, combodrives ug wa nko na sweto asa na nagkuha ang uban kay ang usb adto man sa 5volts.

resistance increases as temperature increases which causes even more heat thats why it gets even more inneficient as it goes at a certain high level of temperature and load. ako basis ani kay ako ra nahinunduman sa ako physics na class sauna. just my basic knowledge not from any forums so if im wrong kindly pls correct me about it.
