Default Re: Philippine society -- fundamentally flawed!

    wierd.

the idealist school of thought that this analysis derives itself is from unfortunately does not give due attention to the fact that the "fundamental flaw" is not dependent on imposed standards of development but outright cooptation of economies (dependence theory) and cultural hegemony follows soon afterwards

What we call chaos is just patterns we haven't recognized. What we call random is just patterns we cant decipher. What we can't understand we call nonsense. What we can't read we call gibberish. - Chuck Palahniuk

it probably has to do with social injustice, that is created by greed and stinginess of the richest of our country - including the expat society of our country.. social injustice never is a natural occurrence.. it always is created by conscious acceptance of that government..

as to poverty caused by government or mismanagement on government level.. we all have the government we chose and deserve.. the government's sole purpose is to serve and thus help all people.. any other selfish manifestations by any government has to be stopped - people are to prove strength by solving their problems by making wise choices and by proving to be free of any government influence.. all people have to learn to live and prosper without any influence or even worst - without ANY dependancy from ANY government or government like body or organization..

The last sentence summarises the whole point of my argument -- that there is no point in blaming anyone or anything other than ourselves. We get a government we deserve and a society we deserve. More importantly we will get a future we deserve.

So what will it be? Shall we continue this national fixation on petty politics? Or do we do it the Chinese way -- business as usual regardless of what goes on at the top?

    It's our choice.

Check out our fresh insight into this all-too-common presidential debacle right here!!

    The fall of a philosopher-king

    Excerpt:
Conveniently, Ms. Arroyo has since been "re-elected" constitutionally (something possible in a nation that loosely defines the term) in 2004. Or has she? That question is now the buzz of 2005 -- another one of those all-too-common things that distract the Pinoy from that elusive job of nation building (remember the concept? Not.). That little after-the-fact legalisation of the 2003 power grab that we thought had been neatly swept under the rug (a la tapal Vulcaseal) is something worth bringing up now as the nation lurches towards another dose of its favourite laxative -- Fiesta Revolution! We need to remind ourselves yet again that we in fact not only deserve each other, we deserve the Philippine Government.

    Happy reading!

Is that so? Were we consulted? On the fourth of July, 1946, we sentenced generations of Filipinos to live their entire lives in a country run like hell by their compatriots. How does pride in self-rule stack up to the reality that in the more than 50 years of independence, the majority of Filipinos lived in absolute poverty and countless others suffered, died, or disappeared as a result of the greed and lust for power of our leaders.

Our country is sick in every sense of the word and we are a morally, intellectually, and spiritually bankrupt people. Our virtues, once comforting when invoked, now, at best, point out disturbing ironies about us: packed Sunday masses and images of presidents, mayors and congressmen knelt in prayer, “third largest English-speaking country in the world”, “where Asia wears a smile”, “Asia’s most vibrant democracy”, etcetera, etcetera.

Let’s give it a break! (1) our brand of Christianity is medieval, (2) we not only cannot speak straight English, we are trying to banish the language from our education system, (3) we laugh at just about anything, even our own stupidity and on every conceivable medium – mobile phones, the Internet, etc., and (4) showbiz personalities are dancing and singing their way into office. Growing pains, yes, but we could have had as our mentor, a country that already had more than 200 years worth of lessons in democratic governance. But no! In 1946, we chose to learn to walk before we could even barely crawl.

Any way one looks at things, the reality is this: we’re stuck with each other and that stigma of being Filipino that was aggravated by Erap’s presidency. The first step in the right direction is to swallow the bitter pill and take a good look at ourselves. That's us! Non-partisan, nothing personal. It's all in the culture.

    uh huh..

"the government is made for the people, from the people, and by the people"....
the government and it elected officials are only the reflection of the populace who gave them power..

if the government is corrupt. then the people who gave it power is also corrupted..

poverty is the result of bad discipline and lack of motivation..

i dont support any political parties and to hell with religious institutions.. but i see that our country deteriorated ever since cory aquino took office.. there is too much freedom.. people dont know how to use it properly and constructively..

the people are too lazy, and too selfish.. they arent willing to trade some of their liberties for social order...

    perfecly agree with you...

they want to change the world, but they cant even change themselves...

ultimate losers jud.... the country practically has everything and yet tapulan lang jud kaau mga tao..

mga talawan og mga tapulan.. mga walay au.. kusog ra mangau sa ginoo pero di kamao mo appreciate sa gihatag...

id offer you a standing ovation for your wisdom... if there are more filipinoes like you, then surely the country would be a lot better place... i hope there are more people who will visit your site

regarding poverty n the government.... (in the viewpoint of a businessman)

1.) what did the government did to you that you become poor?... ang goberno ba jud diay kinhanlonon mohatag nimo kwarta? tulison ka sa goberno kada dawat sa imu sweldo?

they said this is a curse why philippine is indeed run like hell...

well at least we're still ahead of other african states.. hehehe...

Our country is sick in every sense of the word and we are a morally, intellectually, and spiritually bankrupt people. Our virtues, once comforting when invoked, now, at best, point out disturbing ironies about us: packed Sunday masses and images of presidents, mayors and congressmen knelt in prayer, “third largest English-speaking country in the world”, “where Asia wears a smile”, “Asia’s most vibrant democracy”, etcetera, etcetera.
thats what we get for a western style democracy... we have an asian culture but we chose a western kind of democracy... well on paper we have the most balance democracy actually.. its not so free but its not really that harsh...

we are just having a hard time reconciling our culture with our western style of democracy... western style is rooted on individualism while our culture is rooted on close family ties...

Let’s give it a break! (1) our brand of Christianity is medieval
we've never burn women for heresy so medieval is actually an exaggeration, we still have high tolerance for other religions and sects like INC, Phil Ind Church etc... and Ecleo ,
    (2) we not only cannot speak straight English, we are trying to banish the language from our education system,
are we doing that? i believe if filipinos we're able to master our languages, thing could be better.. most japanese dont know how to speak english... any Europeans are very proud of their language.. its not necessary for them to learn english its merely an individual choice... but i think french is very necesssary for them even fr the americans... its the language of diplomacy...
    (3) we laugh at just about anything, even our own stupidity and on every conceivable medium – mobile phones, the Internet, etc., and
i dont see anything wrong with us being able to laugh at ourself... less filipinos commit suicide than first world citizen who dont know how to laugh, less than five filipinos are suicide bombers
    (4) showbiz personalities are dancing and singing their way into office. Growing pains, yes, but we could have had as our mentor, a country that already had more than 200 years worth of lessons in democratic governance. But no! In 1946, we chose to learn to walk before we could even barely crawl.
1946... US which is older in terms of independence with the philippines granted the right of suffrage to their women folk only in 1920...

women's right of suffrage was granted to filipino women only 17 years after US granted the same right political right to their women...

just to show that we at least have some political inteligence and maturity
