Destination: Lake Danao, Ormoc (Feb. 6-7, 2010.)

Nice ang Lake Danao. We were actually crazy enough to go scuba diving there. Cold, cold water, and very dark. Gigantic petrified trees on its silty bottom. It's like Sleepy Hollow down there. They say there are giant eels (kasili) there but we didn't have the pleasure of meeting one underwater.

It is bitterly cold, specially at the bottom. And due to it's altitude, you can't expect any thermocline down there, do you...

And yes, i have seen those bloody giant eels (not while i'm diving, thank heavens for that). Which body diametres as large as mine... And they were sold for P350/kilo back then. Taste great grilled with lemon and lotsa chilli. Great tukka for brew..

There was actually a thermocline, at about 60 feet or so. Where the thermocline was the water actually looked black! We had to abort our first dive because we couldn't find the bottom and it was way too cold at depth.

naa man tighatod ug kasili sa balay.. i think 250 ang kilo.. i NEVER took a dip in the lake coz i'm too afraid of those eels.. but i'd eat them how they catch it, i was told, is pretty much like catching snakes.. they just trap them in holes.
