Default Re: Which is BEST? AMD 3200+ or P4 2.8ghz

bro, na a koy na setup na 3200+ , msi with nforce 4, nya x800 PCI-e ATI na vidcard. There are some issues with this kay pag taud nako sa m-audio professional soundcard, dili na mo dagan ang pc. At first I thought it was the soundcard but we have two of them mo dagan man sa akong personal system of 3200, asrock nf4 and geforce 6200 pci-e. I found out by elimination that the issue was with the ATI card and the nforce4 chipset sa msi. Ok ra cya kung wala ang pro soundcard but inig taod, dili na mo boot ang vidcard. I ended up installing a palit geforce 6600 XT and everything was fine.

So check your mobo chipset, kay if nforce cya, your better off with an nvidia vidcard. If ULI, then okay pa cguro ang ATI.

So akong gi swap sa akong own m-audio, same thing, but both m-audio cards work with my rig nga asrock and geforce6200. Therefore it was either the mobo or vidcard ang incompatible sa audio card nako. So when i tried my geforce 6200 on the msi, everything worked fine. I concluded that the system then needed a geforce card so gi tauran na lang namo ug palit 6600XT and it works fine na gyud. Sa akong analysis, there is a slight incompatibilty sa NF4 chipset sa mobo and ATi PCI-e vidcard specifically X800. Dili man sab ang m-audio ug ang X800 kay another friend of mine who has an M-audio the same as mine, mo dagan man sa iyang rig that has an ati vidcard but different mobo.

Could be some other aspect but if you ask me, nf4 plus ATI x800 naay slight incompatibilities that will not readily appear.

i had an creative audigy soundcard along with my MSI K8N neo2 platinum, and an ATI videocard... it didn't gave me any problem at all.

@joel: defective? hehehe or just mis configuration cguro sa BIOS.

Nvidia chipsets tied up with ATi's ok ra man based on my experience.

<bitaw bai... basin naay defect imo mobo...>

probably so but of the 3 components combinations:

    MSI NF4 + ATi + m-audio,
    asrock NF4 + geforce + M-audio
    MSI NF4 + geforce + M-audio

only the first one with the ATI failed.
But keep in mind that okay man cya without the m-audio card so it might be that the ATI and M-audio are not compatible, but that is not the case sa akong friend who has an ATi vidcard and the m-audio so its that combination of
nf4+ATi+m-audio nga diperensyado. My conclusion then would be that in certain situations there might be issues between NF4 chipsets and ATi vidcards and it would be better to eliminate compatibilty issues by using both nvidia chipsets, the NF4 and geforce rather than mix & match different brands. I don't think the mobo or vidcard or m-audio is defective kay its been 5 months, several projects and an album and not once have I gotten a blue screen on the system.

Now I am completely aware that there are a lot of hidden compatibilty issues when dealing with professional multiple i/o audio interfaces. but all available evidences pointed to issues between the msi and the ATi when, and I say only when the m-audio card is inputted.

A similar thing happened 6 yrs. ago with a motu 1224 audio interface na dili gyud ma setup sa akong ASUS P3V4X nga mobo because of incompatibility with the via chipset, which I found a few months later posted on the MOTU customer service forums.
Same thing with a MOTU 828 and firewire chipsets when setup in win XP sp1, works very well but in Win XP SP2, has a preference for firewire chipsets made by Texas Instruments and NEC. This happened on a friends' HP pavilion laptop with SP2 home and T.I. firewire chipsets vs. Athlon desktop with SP2 and Via firewire chipsets. It runs on the laptop but not on the desktop.

<@joel: defective? hehehe or just mis configuration cguro sa BIOS.>

The last time I have had to tweak a bios to accomodate an audio interface was in win98 to set up an older interface that needed a dedicated IRQ and dma setting, but other than that no bios tweaking is needed aside from disabling built-in soundcards.
Consumer components like vidcards, mobos and ordinary soundcards (audigy 2 is not pro but high-end consumer as evidenced by the -10dbu output) have less compatibility isssues than dedicated professional hardware like audio interfaces and film to digital video interfaces.

Of the 3 components, the order of importance is 1) M-Audio interface - 18k not available in Cebu, 50k for a MOTU also not available here, 2) Mobo for the socket 939, PCI-e, built-in firewire, and nf4 - preference, 3) vidcard

In my experience, regardless of what people say there is always a chance of compatibilty issues when involving mix and match of components from competing brands. Therefore if you want to be sure you have a stable system, it would be better to have same brand components if the quality difference is marginal which is the case with ATi and Nvidia vidcards.
