Bought this lens before, but eventually replaced it with a Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8
My take: (this is based only my experience with this lens)
Pros
- Great alternate mid zoom @f2.8
- Good handling is similar to a 17-55mm f2.8
Cons
- Mahal kaayo ang 82mm filters
- Built quality for me is not that great.
- This is not weather sealed compared to my 17-55mm but I've heard of rumors of paint coming off but mine it did'nt.
- @24mm is a bit soft and there is a bit of vignetting but not noticeable.
My verdict this is a good mid zoom and not sure how it would perform on a full frame body. But for a DX body I would suggest getting a second hand 17-55mm f2.8 or if you don't need that f2.8 might as well stick with a kit lens. When you buy a Sigma its like buying a box of chocolate "you'll never know what you'll get". Bitaw when you decide getting this lens be sure to test this thoroughly cause there are reports that some have defects. I have couple of sigma's (24-70 f2.8, 105mm f2.8 Macro and 70-300mm) before but I never experience any defects at all. But it's better to be safe than be sorry.
