Another way of looking at is it by market segment, naa tay entry level , mainstream and highend.
Usually the entry level is the stripped down version and it gets the job done, overclocking and "extended" durability is only a bonus for these motherboards. Mainstream or mid-end are those board with great features good overlocking and extra "marketing" features like the 2Oz copper and ect ct, the higher end boards or the expensive board is the one that has all the bells and whistles.. extra cooling, finer voltage controls, more PWM , more slots and ect..
Between the mid end and the high end theres really minimal difference unless you use all of its features/slots and OC like crazy and apply voltage mods and ect, performance wise these boards are identical, for everyday overclocking they too are identical.
para nako, if you're not into overclocking, buying expensive motherboards is a waste of money. very minimal difference in performance at stock speeds. and about durability, an expensive motheroboard with generic powersupply will have a higher chance of failure against a cheap motherboard with a reliable powersupply.
Now that's already out of the question.... If you could afford the "expensive motherboard" ang PSU na nuon but then again it's off the topic.
The question is too general... For example in one brand naa man jud sila cheap alternative. The kia vs ferrari is just a reference. They both can run but who's more faster and who would last in that kind of speed in the long run?!
EDIT: Forgot to mention that earlz, dmelsie's statements says it all...

i disagree with this. most people dont buy expensive motherboards to overclock. thats just a bonus. you could even get cheap mobos that are good for that. some buy expensive boards for more room for expansion or for big setups (more slots). it doesnt necessarily always have to do with overclocking.
to give you some ideas of motherboard production cost
i happen to read this article in the past
its all about on the P55 motherboard
AnandTech: How Much Does it Cost to Build a P55 Motherboard?
if imo e analyze for example na lang ang power delivery circuitry
the more phase the higher the cost e consider pa sad ang what component gamiton
ang higher quality type or standard ones, thats why if mo compare kag cheap mobo
imo ma notice usually 3 phase or 4 phase ra sila, and kane nga reason pod mo determine sa higher stability and cleaner voltages sa imo motherboard in ratio with high demand of voltages by the processor in which mahitabo if overclocking comes in mind

If dato ka and you feel like burning money then you know what to do pero if tihik ka den go for the slum boards....
sakto ni pero naay times na dili. pero usually mao ni mahitabo kung wa man gani binuang pero if naay mga ilad2x di ni applicable. in terms of motherboards ok2x sad ni maliban nalang anang mga failed products like example sa mga i3 kana imo i overclock etc. naa silay mga bati na mga boards kay murag buggy pa cguro.
