I'm a secondary school teacher, one of my projects this 4th grading period is blogging. I let them decide whatever type/specific topic they want for it as long as it is educational. I keep on checking their posts for errors.
So far, my students are doing well in blogging and i think this is one way of integrating my subjects to other areas.
DO YOU THINK IT IS OKAY? HOW DO I GO ABOUT IT?

.. giving awards or recognition always promotes encouragement to better their craft. Go ahead, do whatever you have to do to entice your students to improve their blog entries.

Is this award given on recognition day?
Because it will sound a bit odd.
Is it necessary to give an award?
hmmm... did you promise to give one?
I do believe that we should give credit where credit is due. It may not necessarily be an award [im thinking ribbons, medals, etc], you can give him/her a 90+ grade on your subject.
On a side note, a blogging project is definitely creative. I wish i had one when i was in high school.
