Only a total crackpot would think the Catholic Church approved of the Nazis. The Nazis actively attacked the Catholic Church, imprisoning and killing thousands of Catholics who stood up against it. The Church, though defenseless, stoood up against Hitler.

Hence the bold move of Vatican II.

Like I said, there are two things that I am stating, and then possibly a third.

1. That for a time, Catholicism was oppressive to the Jews, since there really was a time that the Church was run by misguided individuals.

2. That the Catholic Church has taken very bold steps in addressing these same issues. Hence Vatican II in the 1960's and Pope John Paul II's apology in 2000.

3. That today, the cruel irony is that some Jewish people are using everything from the Inquisition to the Holocaust, sending most of the Western world on a guilt trip, to justify their own atrocities that they commit in the name of their establishment of Israel, uprooting generations of Muslims in the area and sowing the seeds of hate that have grown into terrorism today.

Anyway, the difference between my opinion and that of others is that, while some in this thread say that "Catholics Supported Nazism" I think that the reverse is true. And by reverse, I mean, and you will find that in all of my posts here - Nazism used Catholicism to support itsefl. By that, I mean, they used the hatred and discrimination towards Jews hardwired into European society at the time by some centuries-old Papal Bull/

And, to their credit, the Vatican acknowledged this error, first by establishing Vatican II and then, with Pope John Paul's apology.

I also believe that the topic of Cathocism in relation to Nazism is moot and academic. Like I stated earlier, it's like Cebuanos today being held accountable for the death of Magellan.

There are far more current topics in relation to the Church that I would like addressed, such as those in relation to the *** abuse scandals, where priests, instead of facing justice, are mysteriously hidden from public scrutiny; also, I also believe that homosexuals should NOT be banned from being priests; I also believe that women have as much right to be preachers as men do.

When it comes to women as priests? Why not, especially that we had a dwindling supply of men ............... the problem I think does not necessarily lies within the Catholic Church.......it lies with the cultural background of each locality.......some locals maybe more strictly patriarchal so having women as their leaders might not worked......the Catholic Church had always been adaptive to cultures as long as it doesn't conflict with the good news it is spreading............Just like in advance and more civilized society........people celebrate mass or equivalent in more solemn and formal way.........while in some primitive societies......people might even be attending mass topless naked, even women, but its their culture, we should not descriminate their ways..............that's why I don't get surprised when the Catholic Church has always been accused of practicing the so called pagan cultures.................
