surge protector - used against voltage spikes/surges (php150.00 - php400.00, depends on protection level)
avr - used against voltage fluctuations (php300.00 - php4000.00, depends on design and load capacity)
ups - used mainly against power outages, but has the above 2 built-in as well (php1600.00 and up, depending on load capacity)

imho, its logical to spend a little to protect equipment which usually costs a lot higher. worry about what you will lose when your precious equipment gets fried by lightning, or damaged due to severe voltage fluctuations power outages. the premium we pay for any of the above is for our assurance that come thunderstorms or lightning storms, we have lesser risk of damaged equipment compared to "unprotected" electric devices... then again, how high (or low) we are willing to spend is up to us c",) c",)

if you want to protect your valuable investment then go ahead.be sure to have enough bucks to buy components if incase power surge or intrreptions occur.me its not only i use avr may ups pa para total protection. its you preference bay.

talking of avr performance, i would suggest " STAVOL ". base on my experience, this is the best AVR available here in the philippines. When it comes to UPS, use " APC ".

and icecube, where can we buy "Stavol"? and how much?

Daghan man balita na bati ang gaint bro tinood bani? aw noon mahibaw-an rani next year ug mo kombate ba gyud ni na AVR.^___^ about sa power pro kita na ko ana but wla pako ka try gamit.

i agree with you sir... bisag sa US, they don't even use avr's... only Surge Suppressors... barato naman gyud ang avr run... around Php300++

even though this is an old topic, nagkatawa lang ko sa replies. "d na kailangan ug avr?" and "avr na ato mga PSU's?"<= bsin ang newer models na auto-volt(110-220) but then i would prefer a clean, steady voltage to drive your equiptments.

mao jud ang nid sa imo AV voltage to minimize damages from due to abnormal conditions:
    1. surge protector
    2. line filter/line conditioner
    3. avr, much better UPS

only higher brand computer PSU's are incorporated with surge protector and line filtering. most generic PSU only have surge protector pero gamay ra makaya. cheap AVR's are nothing more than just ON/OFF switches.

but take not, all these protections, bisan unsa pa na ka mahal is "USELESS" until you have proper grounding sa imo outlet, which is the reason why 3-prong ang outlet sa computer, coz the center one should be connected to earth-ground.

    mao ra share lang ko.

sa US man gud, properly regulated ilang voltage di parehas diri sa atoa nga way klaro. wa jud ko kita ug gagamit ug AVR didto sa mga computers ako nakit.an or other appliances. kung gusto mog klaro na avr, buy a high end one. naa sa mga hardware shops like ace hardware daghan choices didto. kanang mga avr na tag 300-500 mura ra na cya ug extension na naay 110 socket pero actually, di jud kaayo na maayo muregulate ug voltage. low-end man gud na nga mga avr.
