For RNs: Has any1 tried processing a Student Entry/Visa for Australia?

i am a newly registered nurse here and i would like to study in australia. i heard from my cousin who is staying in Kalgoorlie, AU that you only have to study for 6months there at your own expense ofcourse and get hired after studying. while studying you can also do part time jobs for added income.

i was just not familiar with how this is done. what are the requirements? is experience needed?

About the program
The Initial Registration for Overseas Nurses (IRON) course will allow suitably qualified internationally registered nurses to undertake a short, non-award course, necessary to work as a nurse in Victoria, Australia.

Participants who complete the IRON course will attain the necessary competencies defined by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) National Competency Standards for registration as Division 1 Registered Nurses by the Nurses Board of Victoria.
The IRON course consists of a minimum of 80 hours of theory and contains up to 400 hours of clinical placement. The course will be undertaken in a predominantly full-time mode over 13 weeks.

Entry Criteria
Candidates must:
a. Be qualified as registered nurses in a country other than Australia
b. Apply to the Nurses Board of Victoria (NBV) for approval to undertake the course (website: Nurses Board of Victoria - Home),
c. Provide a letter from the NBV stating that they will be eligible for registration upon satisfactory completion of the course,
d. Provide evidence of an International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) score of 7.0 with at least 7.0 in all components of the test.

it has always been expensive to study outside our home country but i think this is far better than paying an agency for their placement going to UK for the same visa application but not even sure if u are really studying and will be able to work as one planned after. i have a family friend who is a victim of this case. they are not studying in UK but working as caretakers yet their visas are student entry. now she is hooked to paying the agency for 3yrs even with her low income.

But this one is a real thing. it's like a bridging course for international nurses just in case one is not considered to be registered as a nurse in australia because their system is different from ours and maybe just to acquaint us with medical health system. but after u took the course u surely will b registered by the board and one will be working in no time. mabawi ra gihapon nimo puhon imo gi bayad sa tuition. just make sure u wont use any agency to do the work ky surely there is no freebie for services these days!

i dont think it's gonna be called show money ky u will really need the money for the tuition. it will help too if u have family and friends to help u there w/ regards to accommodation. so food, schooling and odd job nalang imo problemahun.

kung ang instructions lang sa ila application nako basihan...ang tubag YES! IELTS gyud na 7.0 in all category and overall band score too. however, ang experience naa man sila i-ask na "letter of competence from the employer or from ur last exposure". pero bisan naa pa ni tanan na comply nato BUT they still have the choice kung dawaton baka for registration right away or most likely they will ask u to enroll in their bridging program for RN (Re-entry level).

ang kanindot lang if u have that letter from them that u will b asked or allowed to take that program then u can start scouting for universities na. once u get the university electronic letter of acceptance, then pwede ka lodge na ug STUDENT ENTRY application. matud pa sa ila website ky it will take only 6-8weeks to complete this application.

then, lupad na ka. after imo program, re-apply na nimo imo qualifications sa board imo gusto!

kanang 10k ky sa La Trobe ra na, there are other universities i spoke and communicated with and theirs is 12mos program however the prior is just 3mos. pls. read the fine prints of each university requirement like example with La Trobe, before u will apply to them, they need to have a letter from the Registry board of Victoria that u will need to have this program before u will get registered. Meaning, u need to have urself assessed by the registry board of ur state of choice and once they have a decision letter for u that u will need such program then that the time u will have urself qualified for Re entry RN program. On the other hand, if the board decides u wer qualified to be registered as a NURSE in australia, then u dont need to get into this program at all. look straight for an employer to petition u.

yes, personal nako na barkada has gone this route. she was assessed by the board but they said our nursing isnt TOTALLY tantamount as theirs. so they suggested her to enroll such program. hers was 12mos ky new ra man ning La Trobe program as far as i read from a website. she worked after the program, of course she seeked registration first.
