how connect to internet withour a router, i only have dsl modem and a hub

i'm not so sure if this modem is capable of nat, i just skimmed through its manual. i got to the web interface of the modem though but could not see an option there for nat.

anyways, i got a cisco router that has two (2) ethernet interfaces and wanted it to do the nat from the inside interface (local lan) to the outside interface (connected to the modem) but the problem is that i don't get dhcp replies on it, however my pc gets a public ip address connected directly to the modem. i still need to do a litlle more research on this as i didn't had the chance to talk to the guy who installed it.

do you have any idea why i didn't get any dhcp replies on the cisco router? if it's PPPoE then the modem acts as a bridge right and my cisco router doesn't need to know about PPPoE?

I haven't gone across pldt DSL for quite some time now. Before, they use SMC modems both for small biz and residential. They install a software in the subscriber's PC to initiate the PPPoE connection.

In your case, you said that if you connect you pc to the modem, you get a public ip. Is this address obtained through pldt's software or just via dhcp settings in your pc?

Hi Tamblot, the pc got a public ip address via dhcp. Anyways, I'll just resort to a single pc from now but will try to find some solution to this soon...

if your using pldt dsl, most of the time ilang configuration sa dsl modem/router kay bridge config. meaning ang imong ip kay naa sa workstation. if this is the case then u need another ethernet card para enable nimo ICS or gamit ka ug proxy software like kerio.

pwede man imong pa change into router config pero kinahanglan ang imong plan kay junior biz (5 ip add). kung usa ra gani ka IP ang imong plan then u need a router or sa akong gi sulti above.

if you have Static IP given by your provider but you only got a hub, and DSL modem whether your modem only have USB or ethernet connector, just use winroute instead. if your connection is a PPPoE - ask your provider to give you a temporary Static IP address - sabihin mo windows 98 and you cannot use PPPoE in it.

if you are using dial modem for internet connection , you can installed winroute firewall so the other pc can connect the internet...

pwede kaayo na bro palite lang na ug router para ma share na nimo, pero ayaw lang kaayo daghana ang imong network kay mkamang jud na ug maayo.

i know old nah ni nga post, pero ug naay mka basa ani nag hanap ug DSL,... ayaw jud ug PLDT dsl connection,... bati kaau ug service, pass pass connection, bati service,... kinabatian nga systema sobra ka bati,... mg apply na lng ko ug SmartBro, sa ako bigro smartbro xa ok ang service bsta ug naay taga PLDT mka basa ani, .... HOYYY pg mata mo!

route the packets needed for internet from wifi interface to interface connecting outside. basta disconnect your PLDT service, bati nga systema, smartbro nalng ka broadband gihapon ug naa ghap sa pldt ok nga service, pero pldt askang!
