wow! i'll have this in mind since i don't want my output languorous then this is the best number of lights for me also.

    thanks for the share.

if you're starting out, ako ma share would be to start with one light..then build up from there if the need arises.

    some of my one lighters

i used bounce cards reflectors to shiny walls to act as fill light in some of them. i encourage starters to start with just one, but of course buy more if you can afford, you might need it.
sometimes a single strobe/flash is all you need. cheers! happy new year!

I gain some knowledge on this video YouTube - Digital Photography 1 on 1: Episode 11

But I suggest viewing the whole series and learning the terminologies first.

some good examples of one light portrait/fashion shots...

I have 4 100watt lights but shot these with 1 only and a 45x45cm softbox
as my students were using the other gear with the other models.

reflector and off camera hotshoe flash triggered via pc sync cable

all shot with a Canon 300D and 18-55 kit lens

will schedule a lighting workshop after sinulog

    @abortretryfail
igna nya ko sir when and where i would love to join.

But anyway, I have already experienced 1 light setup using off camera flash + umbrella on my shots and can be veiwed here - Ced Canete - Cebu Based Fashion Photographer
I used a reflector also to fill in some light on the area where there is no light.

Anyway - I might just still use a 1light setup for starters when I open up my studio then upgrade upgrade when money and time comes.

I'll probably be upgrading to a 3 light setup after.

it'll be a challenge to mix the different color temps
using color gels with the CFL could help that
aside from that you'll need slower shutter speeds
to bring the continuous light into the picture
so you might get some motion blur in with subjects
that can't hold still long... kids, pets, people with
    too much caffeine
