guys, thanks for your advise...but as coolnezz have said, it cant be that the workgroup is wrong coz the network has been perfectly working for several months, except for the other day when suddenly, i can't see the units and that error message kept appearing.

anyways, last night when I installed a new printer....and while I was checking again on my firewall settings (i didnt clicked or changed any setting yet), when I clicked on "my network" I again saw the icons for my 2 other computers which are running at the moment as well. at the moment, the network looks ok again. by the way, I am running DeepFreeze in my desktop pc for several months now. so when I "thawed" it last night to allow me to install the new printer...and after i seen that the network seems OK again, i grabbed the chance to "freeze" it as it is when I restarted the unit after I activated DeepFreeze again.

@ coolnezz..you might be right about an intermittent problem since beforehand, I noticed that there are times when upon turning all three computers, I can see all units in the network. however, there are also times when one would be missing...but would reappear after an hour or so. my apple does the same thing...there are times the other 2 pcs can be seen in the network immediately...but there are also times when it takes about an hour or so into my work before I could see the other 2 units within the apple.

    Default Workgroup Access Disappears

This phenomenon occurred sometime in the fall and again today. In my home 10 computer network, I use multiple switches and one router accessing the internet. The internet works fine and the network is set up as peer-to-peer with the Linksys router assigning IP addresses dynamically. There is no server but several machines are set up to for file sharing.

Last fall, I started receiving the same error on all machines and the workgroup was not accessible. After a Windows XP update the next day, the problem disappeared. Today, it happened again, but there has not been a patch yet. I expect it to correct itself again in the next few days. My suspicion is that is associated with one of the security patches and a timing issue.
