@giddyboy: So does it mean that MEGADOME and CICC were somewhat of the same basis/purpose? ni ingon lagi ang capitol na MEGADOME was a different project with CICC?
either na ngilad ang kapitol or sayop ka? asa man gyud?

No. the mega dome was intended for a sports complex. The site where the CICC now stands was originally intended for a sports complex dubbed as the "Cebu Mega Dome". A contest was held for its design and the winning entry was the "spinning disc" by Architect Alexus Medalla.

In late 2005, Philippines President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo decided that the province would host the 12th ASEAN Summit and 2nd East Asia Summit in December 2006, which was later on moved to January 12-15, 2007 due to Typhoon Utor. The Philippines was supposed to host the twin summits on December 2007 yet but Myanmar, the original host for 2006, backed out. Since the province lacked a stand alone convention centre with complete facilities for a large and prestigious international gathering like the ASEAN Summit, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn García revived the "mega dome" project but with the design revised as a convention centre instead of a sports arena.

I dunno where u got that thinking but in fairness, many Ormocanons were grateful for the help she extended esp. during the Ormoc tragedy...

I just remembered I posted about this long time ago in another thread. Some of these previous articles say contrary to what u just said. here it was:

Gwen (then Codilla) became a household name among Ormocanos. Her popularity helped her then father-in-law topple a big political name in the next mayoral elections. ~ MANILA, AUGUST 7, 2006 (STAR) By Jacs T. Sampayan People Asia Magazine

As Consultant on Economic Development, Governor Garcia helped the City government of Ormoc in the implementation of reforms on fiscal, budget and project management. ~ wikipilipinas.org

When the Ormoc tragedy occurred, drowning hundreds of people in a catastrophic flash flood, it was Gwen who first called authorities in Cebu, including her brother who was then serving as a provincial board member. And in the days that followed, it was Gwen who became the “voice” of Ormoc, telling the rest of the country what had happened, and giving hope to her city mates. As a result, her father-in-law, a businessman, was drafted to run for mayor of Ormoc (he is now a congressman), even if during rallies it was Gwen whom the crowds clamored to hear." ~ By Rina Jimenez-David, Inquirer 05/01/2007

But then again, that's your opinion that should be respected...

OMFG! ang mga rason ni gwen puro wala'y ayo...

sa ato pa kadtong proposed MegaDome wa di'ay to buhati ug insaktong studies to the point nga nagpa-contest sila sa design kay mahimo ra di'ay to nga white elepehant. as if, dili white elephant karon ang CICC.

karon kay mag-ASEAN man, they welched on their word with the designer who won in their own stupid contest only to change the design and rename it to CICC.

ASA MAN DIHANG DAPITA INSAKTO ANG GIBUHAT SA CAPITOL, MA-PABLING MAN OR MA-GWEN?

Tinood ni sa akong nahibaw.an CICC did not host major events during Asean Summit sa Lapu2x manto naka focus ang event. Kabaw mantang tanan na gihimo rang rason ang Asean summit mao nang natukod ang CICC.
