unsa may significant sa washed ug unwashed nga riversand?
@ghundo, kasagaran ma experience ani kay kato mang blue green algae. Sa ako nabantayan, they will start growing where there is very little water current. Sayon raman i-address ang current kay nano raman ni.

Regarding washing the sand, para raman dili mo lubog ang tubig sa dust. Kung mo lubog gani, VERY light gravel vacuuming should help.

[quote=markykoi;5947300]salamat sir. im not a master, pero advise lang pud ko ginagmay. daghan klase kapilian ang substrate sa planted, common lang diri sa amoa ang riversand clay tandem kay epektibo pero less ang cost. sa mga ubang hobbyst sa laing nasud or sa Manila, dili sila mu recommend ug construction sand for the reason that it may contain impurties or it may have been processed by chemicals harmful to fauna or flora. but if you do a test and make sure it is inert. and then you wash it thoroughly..it will do. as long as you have a nutrient rich substrate at the bottom of it.

sakto sila, you can check local petshops for sources. akoa, i used garden soil sa among luyo gani as bottom substrate and then top it with riversand.

we prefer smaller grains, kay ang pebbles man gud, some plants have difficulty rooting themselves into the substrate.

Thank you sir. God bless and goodluck on your setup.

master markykoi very informative au imo reply thanx alot bai... i have browsed your thread & learned that most of you guys use riversand/clay & so i will follow the way of the masters here hehe... ok sad ba i mix ang riversand / clay / designer substrate like lets say 20% clay 25% designer substrate & 50% riversand? yeah i have noticed lahi ra jud ang tubo sa plants w/ pebbles ky naako small planted tank nya pebbles ang substrate nya lisod pa jud ig tanom hinoon i dont have planting tools yet & its a very lo-tech tank sad but lipay gihapon ko ky nitubo man ang plants... mao ba u used garden soil? dili ba makadaut sa isda ang fertilizer na mix na sa gardensoil?

Kung nag plano ka ug designer substrates, mas maau 100% designer substrate diretso.

Also, this is a good read regarding making your own base substrate from earthworm castings. Earth worm casting for nutrient enriched sediments, how to - Aquarium Plants - Barr Report

    or mineralized soil substrate.

(skip the dolomite and potash or substitute with root tabs/sticks)

or a hybrid method between the two.

i.mix sd jd dapat ang clay and riversand bai as what we learned from master joey (zen aquatics) sa iyang seminar. imix cya kay inig ka dugayan mo compact ang clay kung dli imix with riversand. dli na nya mka penetrate ang roots sa plants kung mocompact na. i think dli na kailangan ug designer substrate kung mag gamit kay clay and riversand kay nutritious naman ang clay...
