i think in some degree, when you are a skeptic, you automatically become cynical in some ways, which is quite normal. to become overly cynical is dangerous though. to answer your question, i do not know of any research study that indicates a skeptical person is more likely to become overly cynical. because freethinking/freethinker/freethought simply is NOT just about open-mindedness, but rather, a way of viewing life in a REALISTIC/NATURALISTIC sense. RELIGION does not teach reality. RELIGION cannot be tested through means of reason, rationality, and scientific method (which basically are what composes freethought). freethinkers are generally against religion. therefore, if you claim to be a freethinker at the same time believe in religious bullcrap, worse, believe that a supernatural controls everything---i am sorry to tell you but, you are not what you claim to be.
