World famous explorer, Mr. HEIKO BLEHER is coming to AQUAFIESTA! Free admission!

He will be giving a lecture, signing autographs of his books and judging the Discus Competition by the Philippine Discus Society on Nov. 18 and 19 at 1 pm.

For some who don't know, here's a few things about Mr. Bleher.
His first Discus book was published in 1982 and re-printed 10 times. Since then he has published articles on discus in magazines around the world.
Between 1965 and 1997, besides introducing most of the wild discus variants into the hobby – directly or by means of the breeders – he introduced more than 4,000 aquarium fish species he had discovered (or re-discovered).
He also collaborated with and organized the first International Discus Show and Exhibition in 1986 in Tokyo.
For his contributions to the hobby Heiko was elected Man of the Year in England in 1993, and later in France.
In 2009 he was elected Scientist of the year (200 for his world-wide contribution to ichthyology by CAOAC – an award given out only 3 times in their 50 years of existance.
Heiko continues to travel almost monthly to remote jungle areas to find new fishes, and several times each year to remote, unexplored Amazon habitats in search of discus. His life is dedicated to fishes, aquatic plants, flora, fauna and the conservation of species threatened of extinction worldwide.

Scheduled topics to cover on NOV. 18 from 1-5 pm (about 1 hour each):
    1. Aquarium fish trade/trends. past, present, and future
    2. The importance of maintaining an ecological balance, preserving nature
    3. Planted aquariums

    Don't miss this rare treat!!!

Thanks to Stanley Cheng of Shuey Long Aquarium and BFAR for inviting Mr. Bleher to Aquafiesta!
thanks for sharing sir Justin. wish naa ko sa Manila.

salamat sir. im not a master, pero advise lang pud ko ginagmay. daghan klase kapilian ang substrate sa planted, common lang diri sa amoa ang riversand clay tandem kay epektibo pero less ang cost. sa mga ubang hobbyst sa laing nasud or sa Manila, dili sila mu recommend ug construction sand for the reason that it may contain impurties or it may have been processed by chemicals harmful to fauna or flora. but if you do a test and make sure it is inert. and then you wash it thoroughly..it will do. as long as you have a nutrient rich substrate at the bottom of it.

sakto sila, you can check local petshops for sources. akoa, i used garden soil sa among luyo gani as bottom substrate and then top it with riversand.

we prefer smaller grains, kay ang pebbles man gud, some plants have difficulty rooting themselves into the substrate.

Thank you sir. God bless and goodluck on your setup.

unsa may significant sa washed ug unwashed nga riversand?
sakto si sir boomer, actually, master na na si boomer. hehehe

you really don't need to wash the riversand, unless you want nga mu clear paspas imu water dayon.
algaes are inevitable, all we need to do is prevent an outbreak.

go ahead, flood na dayon. apil nato sa exhibit sir.

    Good morning ACERS!!!!!!!

    @gamemaster21

I use to breed my flowerhorn with my texas cichlid before and the results are almost similar to that of your post. They call the results "Red Texas" on the net, but they are not red at all, they just have the patterns of a texas and the body contours of a Flowerhorn. But I'm not entirely sure If they are the same.
