That depends on how far she is looking into her future. Of course, at the beginning the BPOs offer more, now fast forward five years and you probably changed BPOs over and over again and reached a point where you can't increase your salary anymore, after the tiers 1-3 you can go for TL, then for OM and than you are at the end of the road. BPOs don't offer any real growth, and I assume chances are that after you pass a certain level, it will be cheaper for the BPO to replace you with fresh meat instead of increasing your salary.

Then there's the LXK way, of course, entry level is rather meagre compared to what the BPOs promise, but you continuously grow because LXK provides you with Training, Opportunity and most important of all, stability. There's two things now, you are either one of the people who will stay with Lexmark more than five years and most probably gain a comfortable position which will enable you to live a rather comfortable life here in Cebu, or, like the majority, make a name for yourself in three years, earn a glowing recommendation and then go abroad. LXK is a heavyweight in your resume, if you ever plan to go abroad, having LXK in your resume trumps any of these only locally known BPOs.

In a nutshell, LXK offers you a real direction and gives you choices in what you want to do later on while the BPOs offer you more money at the beginning.

Of course this is only my opinion, you might have a different view on BPOs, I just think the BPO industry isn't something anyone would want to do forever.

more to say... regardless of how famous the account / department at which you are working for.... the job contract you signed is not from the account itself, but from the BPO company which i doubt major companies abroad recognizes.. locals in the US don't even know E-******re, P*********ort, Tele****, same goes for the rest... They maybe part of the Fortune 500 but sad to say.. they're hardly recognized..

you cant place the name of the account you're working for on your resume.. as again.... the employment contract is from the BPO Company and not from the company behind the account..



PS: this is in no way of discriminating the BPO industry but it is a fact if you want to know it yourself then ask every customer you get on the phone if they know those companies listed... disclaimer lng ko kay naa uban magpataka lng ug tubag. ^_^

Well I have to admit.. I do like discriminate sometimes against BPO call center agents... I have some friends working in IT park... when me meet I always go like "Hey Friend, long time no see, what are your plans for this Christmas... ohhh sorry... forgot... work right? What about new year... ups... sorry again"
Then I basically just grin...

to Hozenyan and esprugodoys...salamat sa mga insights...i know that it will definitely give us more idea about the company. unfortunately my friend decided to pass the offer. she forgot to mention that the position they offered was contractual. i do get her point now.

do they offer contractual positions only? she said that hr told her that it's either contractual or probationary. hhhhmmmm....

airam, you friend and i had the same kind of offer when HR called... it was their offer for me as well, in fact you friend got a better offer since they mentioned "either"... but guess what... i ended up not having a contractual offer. as for my previous post on the hiring process, it's actually not HR who has the final say on the contract (my belief base on experience) but it's the manager at which who will conduct the interview with the applicant. i took my chances and followed their scheduled appointments, when i got to the job offer stage... i opened my "pandora's box" and asked the very interesting question to the manager... "is this job offer really for contractual or probationary?" the manager responded immediately with "NO, this is for probationary/regular contract"..

my take on the hiring process is that... again... it's not HR who really has the final say on the contract though they are the ones who give slots to the manager... let's say... 5 probationary and 5 contractual slot are open... so in that scenario.. it is actually the manager who drafts applicants for specific positions. job offers will differ based on how you are rated on the interview..
