they miscomputed my tax refund for 2008. after a year and a half, it is still not resolved. the hr responsible said that she will give me the money out of her own pocket so that it will not go through the company. BECAUSE, she said, the company will end up paying more and the issue will go back to their department. she gave me a random amount which she was so sure was the difference. i had another computation so i asked for a recomputation of my 2008 itr. guess what? nada!

i dont know if the company seriously does not know about her and the complaints people have on her and the other hr. i'm sorry, i know some of the hr are good at what they do, but some seem to have just been thrown into a mudpile and tried to clamber their way out of it, no matter who or what they spatter mud on.

somebody said that they can't let this hr go because she knows too much of the company's dirty laundry. maybe handled some of them herself. i have no regrets working for the company, i loved my job here. i did it well, handled the complaints, honed my craft despite the company's limited resources, i was not perfect, but i was good at what i did. but to be treated like this?

from the start, i gave them a heads up. they kept saying, "okay, okay." then they messed up. so they said, "you'll get it back." they messed it up again. now? they're leaving me to deal with incompetence personified!

i have messed up a few times at work. who hasn't? but i delivered. and when i couldn't, i passed it on to someone who could AND DID. anything to save the business, right? WHY CAN'T HR DO THE SAME? It only goes to show that MANAGEMENT, THE COMPANY, EITHER DOESNT CARE ABOUT ITS EMPLOYEES WELFARE & BENEFITS OR IS KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THE RANDOM ACTS OF INCOMPETENCE & IS IN CAHOOTS WITH IT. WHY ELSE WOULD IT PUT INCOMPETENCE IN CHARGE? and be okay with it.

i didnt mind the negative stuff before, although honestly, they were true. also the positive. some earn really big here, but only the sales team. i just hope the people still with xlibris know their rights because if they dont, this company will not enlighten them. and they have to fight, really fight for what is right. and that means they will fight the company. and incompetence herself.

CAN YOU BELIEVE ANYBODY WHO WOULD TELL ANY EMPLOYEE SOMETHING IN A KNOW-IT-ALL TONE without EVEN RESEARCHING IF SHE HAS THE CORRECT INFO? Dont think that she is just one person. Yes, there are many others who are good and some who are okay. There are also more like her. But the scary thing is what you're dealing with is management. MANAGEMENT WHO TURNS A BLIND EYE AND TOLERATES INCOMPETENCE.

It's true Xlibris rewards those who bring in the big bucks. But would they also go as far to tolerate someone who is so careless? Does she bring in big bucks for the company? Or does she keep them hush-hush? Hence, tolerated nausea.

just wanna say: the good points are correct. the bad points are correct.

    TRUE:
some earn too low (below 10k)
    some earn low (10-20k)
    some earn high (20k+)
some earn OMG high (up to Php _00,000.00) hint: sales

TRUE: your basic includes all. they're not clear on this. they say upon hire that your "basic includes all allowances, night diff, etc." i never knew how that was possible, but that's how they explained it.

TRUE: they dont give you a copy of your contract. I know some who were given a hard time when they asked for theirs. why? i never bothered.

TRUE: there is politics. but then it is everywhere.

TRUE: Sales people have been known to buy a house or car or other luxuries upon a good commission.

TRUE: the company has been bought. the company is expanding.

TRUE: HR has a bad reputation, even within the company. Some HR do their job well, but they are overshadowed by those who don't.

TRUE: the company keeps people (or tries to) that they see are worthy.

TRUE: A management person is known to throw, bang stuff (even when employees are around) when he has a tantrum. It's up to you if you feel that's an okay attitude or feel repulsed by such unprofessionalism. your opinion says about what you are.

TRUE: The building has flooded, the aircon has burst open from heavy rains, and when it rains it stinks like a dog that hasnt bathed in a year fell in a shithole and goes walking around the office. but then theyre moving to it park.

TRUE: They give you a hard time to request for your payslip when you dont get it upon distribution. "So that you will be careful next time, you fifth-grader."

TRUE: The christmas & beach parties are fun. even though they are apt to announce events or change plans at the last minute. Not always, but they are known to. As well as change which holidays to follow, US or Philippines.

TRUE: There are incentives. Which you may or may not get depending on your performance. The metrics is apt to change every now and then too.

Xlib can be heaven or hell, depending on your perspective. If you're someone who's just in for the goods--one who is willing to strong-arm aspiring authors in purchasing publicity kits for their books--working there would be like cloud 9. Especially if you're a sales agent. We're talking six figures in commission alone, if you have the "powers of persuasion." If you're unwilling to work at night, copy editors and copywriters are well-compensated as well. I'm not particularly sure about illustrators because this is a relatively new position in the company.

However, if you're someone who values your rights as an employee--excuse me, as a human being, who knows the Philippine labor code by heart, you'll definitely get burned. As all of you may know, this company is not popular when it comes to employee satisfaction. Lack of consultation with employees on new policies, transfer of responsibilities from one job level to another without added compensation, no overtime and holiday premium, no allowances, no transpo/hazard pay (considering that the office is located in the middle of nowhere), miscalculated taxation, what else? If you're an Xlib employee with dignity and critical thinking, you'll have no trouble agreeing with this. I could go on and on on with the specifics, but murag taas naman.

    Money or dignity lang. Pili.
