"President shall not be eligible for any re-election"
- Akong sabot ani is President shall not be allowed to
run again (be re-elected) as president. They had this provision to prevent what happened sa time ni Marcos.
- this part is unclear on whether the president is qualified to run again (as president) at a later time in his life.
(Case in Point.....
FVR: "I can run again...." )
"No person who has succeeded as President and has served as such for more than four years shall be qualified for election to the same office at any time"
- This also applies to the President not being able to run again
as president. This case applies to GMA since she succeeded as President pero was able to run again because she didn't serve for four years sa iyang first term.
I understand the apprehension of some people to think this is possible. She even flat out lied that she wouldn't run for the presidency during her first term.. only to change her mind and run. Also, there's talk about her running for congress.... so how far fetched would it be to consider the possibility of her running for VP? It's very unlikely since she is so unpopular but legally.. it's not beyond the realm of impossibility.
The way I understand it, the constitutional provision above does not mention anything about the President running for any other office (VP, Congress etc). So It's not clear at all....
I wish Father Bernas was here to clear this up...
