Chip, that's flare. Hoods are only effective at blocking stray lights from the side. If you are shooting straight to a strong light source, expect flares to come up... most specially at the "wide angle" range. This is one area where more expensive lenses do a better job.

nice photos mga bossing ug mga maam, kung e-translate sa akong nakat-onan didto Bacolod, "namit-namit gid ah!" , ambot kung sakto bah ang translation... hehehe ...
murag nindut pud nga sa sunod nga tigum-tigum, ang mga entry ninyo sa mini-contest e-slide show then critic dayun on each pic...
adtong unang panahon bali-balihon ko ug sagpa sa mga saway sa ako pics pero nakat-on pud intawn ko, hangtud karun naa lang gihapon saway pero gamay nalang... ang problema kay dili kamot gamiton ug sagpa kundi pala nah
