The problem with banning songs though is how to enforce it.

Broadcast is regulated by KBP but how do you keep those songs away from karaoke bars? (They can't even control "My Way" fanatics.) Maybe it's just the airlanes now but where else next: in the privacy of your I-Pod?

Here's something else. The protests target only lewd songs in Filipino.

Has any legislator stood up to condemn Britney Spears' "If U Seek Amy," Whitesandy's "Slide It In," or "Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow"?

“THE Cebu Provincial Board (PB) wants a law banning sexually suggestive songs, including songs about bananas that can drive people nuts,” a front page story of this paper said yesterday.

The PB said it can no longer stand songs like Blank Tape’s “Banana,” the chorus of which goes: “Sige i-try mo aking banana, pag natikman mo ‘to di magsasawa, dahil masustansiya ang aking banana, at ubod pa ng sarap aking banana.” It passed a resolution urging Congress to come up with a law quick, or the children in Cebu Province will never look at bananas the same way again.

From here on in this column, please read carefully because I don’t want to say I’m making this up. OK?

The PB said the law must cover Tagalog songs because it’s the only language our children understand, aside from Cebuano.
