i don't disagree with that. makes me wonder why humans always love to put meaning to everything. do you think a dog wakes up every morning and wonders what the meaning of his life is? we're here, that's it. either get up and do something with yourself or don't. the search for "meaning" sounds more like a search for a higher power to me.

the dog's life is to serve its master.. make its master entertained and happy..

but anyway, its dangerous when you think the meaning of life is the same for everyone else.. that's for sure..

    to each is own.. *echo*

The universe doesn't care whether you are selfish or not.

And to your other query, of why I am still here, because I can. No divine intervention can prevent me from being in this thread, because none exists.

And no one is forcing you to believe what we say. But it's also a mistake to think we are wrong.

i'm not talking about the universe.. i'm talking about group evolution (in this case, a society)..

like i said, to each his own.. and if you think life is meaningless, then i'd beg to ask, again, the question, "Why are you still here?"

Logic would state that if life is meaningless, then you would not want to live anymore.. what's your purpose? because you can? you can also choose to die, you know.. simply because you can, too..

even if reduced to simplest terms, life's purpose is to live.. and whatever meaning you put into that, it still has meaning.. it doesn't live because it can, otherwise, you'd see living things not working hard to survive anymore.. unless you consider yourself a leech/parasite of society.. but even a leech has its purposes to live..

Everything is part of the universe. How the universe behaves ultimately affects everything within it. You cannot talk about everything involved with humanity without mentioning the universe, because human society is just a subset of the universe.

I live because I can. The moment resources or anything within my immediate vicinity disallows that, then I cease to live. Anything that complicates this simple rule can be used to manipulate other people, who are "lost" within their own struggles to comprehend their existence.

you're expanding the topic when it shouldn't be.. why talk about the universe? do stars have purpose? do floating piece of rock around the solar system have purpose? we're talking about Life here.. not talking about the universe.. hell, as you said, the universe doesn't care about whether your selfish or not.. it doesn't even care whether you choose to live or not..

but with respect to life (or society of living things), why do you choose to live? because you can? how about choosing to die?

living things don't live because they can.. living things choose to live because they must.. hence the meaning of life..

There is no difference between the stars, a floating piece of rock, and life. We are all made from the same materials. The only reason why humans like to think of life as something "special" is because it makes them feel good. Same reason why humans like to think of the divine--it makes them feel good. From a human standpoint, anything that makes humans feel bad is automatically branded a negative, hence, ideas similar to what I've just expressed are considered "bad", "inhuman" and perhaps even "evil", just because it makes people uncomfortable.

Laughter is an emotion. This point, above everything else, clearly illustrates how you want to discuss things--in the light of emotion, rather than of reason.

I may find life meaningless, but that doesn't necessarily make me inferior to you, or anyone else, which is basically what you are trying to say in this thread--that people like me are inferior to those who, like you, see "meaning" in life. By doing that, you are no different from the Nazis who once believed that the Aryan race is the only race that mattered in this world, and all the other races are inferior and have no right to live, because they cannot possibly comprehend the complexity of life they way Aryans see it.
