THERE IS FREE OF THIS COUNTRY esp. when a candidate is promising the poor people to recover, to give them parcel of land. Out of the total area of the philippines, why is it so hard to give them what they promised, a parcel of land?

And you really believe that? You must be more naive than I thought. If they gave you Babuyan Island, would you go? How can you expect free land when we even have to pay for the delivery of basic services which should be freely provided by our government?

We don't see the potential in our agriculture. Large scale, mechanized, industrial agriculture. Not the haphazard, ill-conceived and poorly managed agricultural system we have today. Many groups see the potential in the country, and would like to invest or help the country wean itself from its backward agricultural practices. But they cannot make any headway, because there is too much resistance. And too many checkpoints and payments to make, especially in Mindanao, where certain groups of people want the place for their own selfish agenda. Of course the problem is a LOT more complicated than that. But the bottom line is, give our carabaos a rest and pamper them and let the tractors take over. Our population is reproducing faster than we can produce the food to feed it. And that cannot be good.

Re: chinese, there are a lot of them already inside the vicinity who even doesn't know how to speak english and our own dialect. And they are pure aliens, no papers, no documents.

Report them to immigration. Have them deported. Make that your mission in life. And we will thank you for it. Especially the meth producers. The only problem is, they go to where the demand is. So that tells us something about the people in the place we live in. China has this problem as well. Only they don't compromise. I've witnessed public executions of people operating meth labs. Carried out on the spot.

What I find ironic is, these illegal aliens are partly responsible for keeping our people employed. And why single out the Chinese? There are the Koreans, the Americans, and other nationalities. They operate businesses here as well. And some of them are even fugitives from the law. If your xenophobia stems from your envy and whatever traumatic experience you might have had, it's time to rethink your paradigms. This is the 21st century after all.

What you have is a misplaced sense of nationalism. Nationalism in the global setting is not race dependent, but heart dependent. I have Filipino Chinese friends who are more Filipino than Chinese, even if they come from traditional Chinese backgrounds. Why? Because they were born here, they grew up here, they call this place home, and more importantly, they love this place. Just like you and me. And I don't know about you, but many of them are doing their best to improve the conditions of their fellow Filipinos by offering jobs, volunteering in public schools, giving out scholarships, and even building schoolbuildings. If we all pitch in with open arms and hearts instead of pointing fingers and clenching fists, think how much trouble that would save us all.

Corruption cannot be eradicated. We can only hope to minimize it. Take a little, and do more. What is happening now, is take more, and do little. As long as silly people vote for those who promise them their own lots, we will never get ourselves out of this quagmire we're in. Let us all pray for guidance and deliverance from our convoluted political processes. And think long term. It may not happen in our generation, but we must believe it will happen.

Where are those "unoccupied" lands? Are they even arable or habitable? The Philippines is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. Maybe the TS should read about agrarian reform.
