the flash helmet mentioned earlier is not mine but by some guy in Japan (you can find the link to his website in the post). the flash bracket I'm using was given to me. but you can easily get one here or in Manila. it's two parts beacuse the bracket can be folded up for storage. I took off the hotshoe and put in a 1/4" bolt with some washers. To that bolt I put on the photoflex multiclamp. there's a thread on the top part to screw in the pc-to-hotshoe adaptor and mounted my flash on that. the whole thing was facing backwards and the silver reflector umbrella (1,500 at Seven Arts... not Five Arts pnoize ) slides into the multiclamp. the 300D does not have a pc connector so I had to slide another adaptor on to the hotshoe.

I find it more practical and convenient as everything is all in one portable handheld unit... but it's still not as fun as the flash helmet

I actually mounted a studio light and small softbox to the bracket but using that requires being tethered to a long extension cord. Photos of setup and sample pics to follow when I get another chance to experiment!

that might be one of the professional models...

very high wattage... it's been said that you can get 2nd degree burns if you stand too near when one goes off...

it's also been said that if you have to ask for the price, you can't afford one

used our easter family get together as an oppurtunity to try out the modified on camera flash umbrella bracket...
...all photos untouched except resizing for post...

my 8 month old daughter, Ella

7 month old nephew... surprisingly the catchlights are rectangular intead of umbrella shaped

2 year old daughter, Meg hunting for easter eggs

comparing the catch of a good hunt... Meg with cousin
(it provides a nice soft fill light oudoors)

egg hunter going over his find

after the hunt... Meg with a mouth full of yummy treats

wonder if I'll ever get a chance to try this out in a commercial shoot.,, especially for an event.
but I'd have to do something with the 36" diameter umbrella first before I start poking people with it.
provides great shade when shooting outdoors though

a cake or pie pan would be a good place to start from in making the frame. the aluminum ones would be light and easy to work with but they'd get deformed easily... so probably the metal pans would be better... or try cardboard too.
