    @chabm_more

    Just to let you know Im not a SOHO expert Ken Adams aka "Mr. Expert"...

    Test on April 2009 (on a different forum I moderated)

    I have a D-Link DIR-655 router. We change WAN Port Speed from Auto 10/100/1000 Mbps to 10 Mbps

    You can check my speedtest here, I have a stable 3Mbps.

    Test Speed after change the WAN Port Speed

    Btw, Im just curious what happen to your career? From an expert Linksys tech support and you move up to an L3 ISP tech support and now you move down to a Cable ISP tech support. Product Specialist should stay on Product Specialist, right Mr. Expert.

    after acquiring knowledge at Link2Support-cagayan de oro, now Concentrix--which pays only 6.5k per month as a Linksys Technical Support--I resigned, setup a wireless dsl at my neighborhood.. redistributing smartbro (boosted to 512mbps after adjusting qos in the canopy) and globe dsl(384kbps) using a dual wan router edimax br6524k, cascaded with wrt54g upgraded to ddwrt--enclosed with weather proof casing, placed in a pole up top the roof(you can check my pic/s at my friendster if you want)... my neighbor pays me 350php/month for the wireless internet. nearest customer uses usb wlan, farthest customer (247meters away--google earth measurements--uses wrt54g upgraded to ddwrt as wireless client/repeater and status showing 2mpbs/1mbps link with he main ap)--customer didnt feel a drop of speed., extending another 247meters radius. after the network got settled, moved here to cebu as EarthLink LPV TRON @ PeopleSupport(also the pay is not that much), account got dissolved, transferred to Apple iPod Technical Support(still got dissolved).. now at Convergys as L2 Tech Support(account stable--so far).

    based on my experience, ISP has qos set to your account. unless you can hack-in to their server, boost up your qos, if they've set your account as 384/768/1000/2000kbps, you're suppose to get at least 80% of that. otherwise, contact them and complain about it. if your next door neighbor is the ISP server, then you should be getting the full speed all the time, otherwise, the distance between you and the server will affect your speed..

    btw, the screenshot above.. is that MB/s or Mbps?
    coz there's a difference.. If that's MB/s then you're getting really high speed, speed that doesnt exist here in the philippines yet.

    if that's Mbps, then that's not 3mbps...

    it does not increases your speed rather that hack reserves memory for your nic card. By increasing the default RAM it MAY improve its throughput or performance.

    IrqX=4096

    means reserving 4096MB RAM.

    This is a very old hack for Win95/98/ME OS. System.Ini are not required by WinXP. It is there for compatibility purposes of old applications.

    Have u read the first line of System.Ini

    ; for 16-bit app support
