Raid 5 has 2 task, the mirror and the striping side, it required a 3 minimum disk with scsi controller host, the stripe process simply writes updated data to all disk belong to a scsi host and on the other hand while the stripe process distributing the updated data to all disk the mirror process takes on hand who record the updated data being transfered to a parity processes. RAID 5 is more reliable than other else, because if 1 goes wrong normally the other disk being parited will have to take over, at the same time the mirror process also secured all the data if incase all the disk will fail (but thats very impossible to happen). The disadvantages on RAID 5, the minimum 3 disk will have to disregard on 1 disk (use for mirror) so the actual storage you will be maximize is only the 2 disk operationally.
