A sprinkle of flash over an xhtml+css web standard compliant website could go a long way.

It's the obligation of the designer to educate his client about the importance of both technology. Also, it's the responsibility of the designer, to optimize his code as much as possible.

Make me wait for your flash site to load and I'm off to other sites in less than a minute.

We can compare a good flash site to a good movie. At first, eager kaayo and wow kaau ta sa design and presentation. But who wants to watch a movie over and over again? Its much easier to add content and edit the traditional way of designing pages. So para nako I would prefer html/css.

I really hate to let go of this information ^____^ but its old news anyways...
Ok, it seems many are blinded by the "Flash-not-so-easy-to-update-the-content" thing... might this enlighten your mind a bit...

CMS' are really hot and are selling like pancakes since the infamous MAMBO (OpenSource Matters), miraculously turned the average web surfers/bloggers/forumers into webmasters.

So... while those pancakes were still on the frying pan... EGO 7 had their "FLASH CMS" way back in year 2000 before they went commercial with their CMS in 2003. i dunno if you guys recall a website that looked like a MAC OS...
EGO 7's CMSmx(formerly known as EGO Media)
    http://www.ego7.com

and you might wanna checkout FantasyInterfaces and their portfolio... murag naghimo ni silag interface for google search engine... called Road Runner...

its good to see new technology adapting with traditions...

but then again, flash will always contradict on SEO. It's somewhat, a flaw. if flash would have been capable of SEO... it would change the whole perspective of the WWW entirely.

para nako depende gyud sa gamit... and like what dulcepixels said, obligation gyud sa designer to educate his client. In some cases, case studies are often blotted out tungod kay dire sa pinas, customer is ALWAYS RIGHT... no matter how wrong they are. hehee ^___^

so, kung maayo ka both, then mas maayo. if not then strive to become near perfect.

    ^____^

Flash CMS' are nice and cute, but all the features in systems the like can be accomplished using CSS, Javascript, DHTML, and Ajax that can be validated and where SEO is not a problem. Where then is the selling point of Flash except for clients that must require it or individuals/groups that showcase their multimedia skills.

I strongly agree to that. well, there are clients who wants "edge" on their websites... flash can cut those refresh scenes on every mouseclick... but theres always a "but" hehe... would take some time to load. but if you're on a T1 connection then painstaking preloaders would be a stroll in the park.

how i wish i could just bookmark a part of a flash website... =P
