Resident Evil IV Due in 2010
The next Resident Evil movie is in development and due out next year.
They cite an internal memo circulating round Sony offices that suggests they are eager to get Resident Evil: Afterlife into theaters by September 17, 2010.
Paul W.S. Anderson is returning to the helm to direct Resident Evil: Afterlife, the latest installment in the seemingly never-ending series of videogame adaptations.
The report comes from Production Weekly, which also indicates that the film will start its eight-week shoot on September 28th at Cinespace Film Studios in Toronto.
Anderson directed the first film in the series and has served as a writer and producer on the sequels. He also wrote the new film, which will once again star Milla Jovovich as Alice. He's previously stated that he would not direct this film -- but when you're married to Milla, you can go back on your word whenever you want.
Supernatural actor Jensen Ackles is reportedly in the running to play "Leon Kennedy" in a proposed Resident Evil IV. Ackles is said to be in talks to join the film, which MoviesOnline.ca claims will lens sometime next year.
Leon Kennedy began in the videogame series as a rookie cop during the T-virus outbreak and later became a Secret Service agent assigned to the Presidential detail.
The only problem with the Ackles rumor is that his representatives at the William Morris Agency claim to have never heard of the project. WMA advised IGN that Ackles has not been contacted regarding Resident Evil IV.
The MoviesOnline report also referred to REIV as Resident Evil: Afterlife, which, curiously, was the original title for the third installment, Resident Evil: Extinction.
IGN paid a visit to the Extinction set in Mexico City a few months ago, where we were advised by producer Jeremy Bolt that the filmmakers, including writer-producer Paul W.S. Anderson, were mulling a fourth film. He did not say, however, that it was far enough along to go into production by next year.
Jeremy Bolt, and the filmmaker graciously took a moment to discuss the future of the Resident Evil film franchise.
When pressed about whether they had plans to make Resident Evil IV with Claire Redfield as the series' new lead character, Bolt replied, "It's not our intention. But we've been very pleased that the third part of the franchise has done so well. Ali Larter is a terrific Claire Redfield."
IGN reminded Bolt that he seemed bullish on RE4 when we asked him about it last year on the set of Resident Evil: Extinction. So why have he and Anderson seemingly cooled their heels on continuing the franchise?
