Underclocking

Hello there, im in need of some GREEN help.

You noticed that I capitalized GREEN in my post. Green stands for lower energy consumption and lesser heat. I am a conscious guy on energy saving and GREEN and Underclocking goes well with it but I have some questions I need to know.

I've searched everywhere in google but I can't find a decent answer on the risks of underclocking. Some say you can void its warranty, some say it can be unstable but it is definitely safe. Now what the hell does that mean? Ironic but I want to underclock either my processor or gpu for energy saving.

My rig has been running for 72 hours already and I am pretty aware that running this thing 24/7 is a definite waste of energy. I can't turn this off as it is either indexing or downloading some important stuff. I know there's power management in control panel but I think its not enough. I need to bring down power consumption.

if you are an intel user. jsut enable the intel speedstep

and lower your multiplier to its lowest level.

@ts better post your specs first and if you can go for lesser wattage psus that would be great. this is your torrent rig?

no need to underclock, if ur proc is intel just enable eist and c1e on ur bios mobo.

underclocking is pointless if you want to save on electricity, as everyone above has mentioned, there's already stuff like intel's speedstep & c1e & amd's cool & quiet.

now, if you want to save electricity without compromising performance/overclocking, you can undervolt your processor. i have my e8500 slightly overclocked to 3.4ghz, but undervolted to 1.088v. runs fully stable 24/7, my load temps never go past 45 degrees thats lower than my stock temps, & imo low temps = lower power consumption heh

According to this guy on this link, when enabled EIST, "lower idle temperatures resulting from the lower multiple and Vcore"

Question on bios settings C1E and EIST

So does this mean if naka auto imung OC (using the auto OC) the power consumption will be the same if not overclocked right? not unless if you will manually adjust voltages?

what if the voltages is too low, so your procie is hungry for energy, dili kaha mas delikado?
just like blood glucose, if its too low, you are most at risk than being diabetic

When I tried to OC I did not turn EIST and C1E off so naka auto akong OC. I noticed that when I OC'ed to 35%, the multiplier is 6, then when I UC it at 133mhz, the multiplier is 9. Also the voltages are adjusted as well accordingly, so I think, wala ra cya na power hungry.

I read somewhere that if you OC, the lower multiplier is better so mao cguro ni why if naka Auto OC and UC, UC has higher multiplier than OC

When we talked bai that you brought your volts to 1.088v, when I came home, "power hungry" ang naa sa akong mind. Pila na ka days nag dagan in this voltage?

since july pa, 24/7 settings nako na ang stock niya is around 1.20 - 1.25v. i only change the voltages when i'm doing benchmarks at 4ghz+, so far 3.4ghz ra akong max stable @ 1.088 hehe

1.072 tungod ata na sa vdroop, 1.088 akong gi set sa bios ana. i've run stability tests on this voltage before tho
