unya naay usa ka forumer dinhi nag mention ug provincial hospital.. how about the Cebu City Medical Center? naay gibuhat si Tomas aron ma improve na nga hospital? WALA.

Sa kadaghan sa mga pobre sa Cebu, mao ra tawn nay city hospital nga public. Gipabayaan pa jud sa city hall.

DAKO!

Cebu will never reach it's current success of the City Hall neglected the probinsyanos. One man can't do everything in one term. Every developments takes time........ the squatters and the infrastructures will be focused next.

    Editorial: Mayor Osmeña’s luncheon
    Thursday, September 3, 2009

IF there’s an issue that Capitol has wisely steered clear of, it’s the one that Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has recently been beating like a dead horse.

The mayor is even spending money for a luncheon today just to publicize his spin that the JSU-PSU Mariner’s Court-Cebu Building is not only cheaper but is also better than the Capitol-constructed Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

Osmeña also packaged well the insult by saying he will have a special table and special food reserved for Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia if she attends the luncheon.

    Spin

While the mayor’s announced purpose for the luncheon is supposedly to show off a product of “good governance,” it’s obvious that the move is not imbued with altruism but is a continuation of the long-running verbal exchange between him and Capitol.

In this context, the invitation the mayor extended to officials of the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas and the Commission on Audit (COA) could be interpreted as his way of prodding them to adopt his spin on the issue.

    Different structures

But comparison, as the old saying says, is odious.

Comparing the cost of constructing the CICC and the cost of constructing the JSU-PSU building could be misleading and unproductive considering the many factors and variables that need to be looked into before conclusions can be arrived at.

The CICC and the JSU-PSU building are two different structures built by two different entities (the latter is an Associated Labor Union project) in different periods and under different circumstances.

That makes making an honest comparison difficult.

    Not experts

Besides, the sponsor of the luncheon (Osmeña) and those invited—media people and officers of the anti-graft office and COA—-could surely not come up with an informed comparison by merely roaming around the JSU-PSU building.

It is even possible that the people invited to the JSU-PSU building today and asked to make the comparison have not even seen the inside of the CICC, making even their “impressions” on the matter unreliable.

But then again, that is precisely why comparisons are odious in the first place.

bai, u surely are misinformed. why is it tomas fault na daghan kaau og squatters ang cebu? dont you know na kaning mga squatters are not from cebu city..that is precisely why they are squatting on other people's lands. they are from other provinces..including cebu province. shouldnt u instead be pointing your finger at gwen for not providing enough employment opportunities in the province? moreover, show me a highly urbanized country here in the philippines that doesnt have the problems of snatchers, robbers and all those you mentioned. if this problem is uniquely cebu, il gladly transfer residence.

but going back to the topic sa CICC...

iv been there..twice! one was when we organized an event there and the other was when i was attending an event. ang ako ra jud comment..pwera gaba na building. it is truly a shame...if all you pro CICC here in istorya have ever laid your eyes on CICC..you would understand. i am not being bias against gwen..just to clarify lang. when she started out, i was impressed on how she was able to unite the politicians of cebu province. now, i say, she wields too much political clout over them..but then again, that is another issue.

anyway, as an architect by profession, or even as a common man, just look at the interior of CICC. it is very clear na pinadagan ra jud ang trabaho. the walls are misaligned. the cracks between the plywoods kay klaro kaayo. when it rains, magtulo ang sulod. the doors to the main hall are too small. and these are just some of the defects which you will notice just at first glance. As a cebuano, the CICC is simply an embarassment to the kind of craftsmanship that our world-class cebuano craftsmen are supposed to be known for. and like tom, ms gwen, where did the money go?
