misbehavior is one thing. but what about those teachings which religion imposes which is against reason and conscience? don't you think religion is also enslaving?

Respect for each other's religion and faith, love for one another, and unconditional love towards GOD, I think transcends all known thoughts about spirituality....

Religions do not have teachings that goes against conscience, only against the situation and reason.

Just to clarify, spirituality (from the point of anthropology) was already observed by early humans (Neanderthals) in a form of reverence for or worship of sacred objects, offering and burial ceremonies etc... long before the first religion was built. In essence, humans are particularly "spiritual" or "seeking" in nature according to cognitive science.

And when humans came to learn how to write, came also the various authors in different regions all attempting to write their spiritual traditions, their myths and legends, their codes of conduct all poured into their writings forming adherents and believers taking them as "absolute truths" or divinely inspired or sacred. Thus, the birth of many religions.

So why are there many religious militants today? Religious militancy is not something new. In the past, people even fought to prove who the better god was. As I have said in another thread, there were more than 2,000 recorded events related to religious war and violence as religions matured sometime in 1000 CE. Even today, because religions vary in their concept and exercise of spirituality, it has also become a cause of friction. Thus your observation is correct when you said of the militants as the "effects of religion."
yes i do agree in your post..and lahi ta ug definition sa spirituality..kai akoa i think spirituality is more than just worship and obeying one's god's law..i think it's much more than that..murag becoming one with the law or sonething..i have to admit my definition of spirituality is tainted with my own biases..but i think valid man pd akong biased definition if viewed in another context..bsta ang akoa definition sa duha is: Belief= more on believing though haven't really digested the essence of what one has believed and ang usa Spirituality= has transcended the stage of belief and faith..you have become one and absorbed the essence of your beliefs much like science kng mag mix ka ug gunpowder you KNOW nga mubuto jd na..and not just putting faith or trusting in the mixture..kai in the first place you have extensive knowledge na of the individual ingredients and you know which exact component and mkahatag ug explosive quality..and not the one nga ni assume lang ka kai mao mai imong nakit-an sa uban kng unsaon pag mix ang gunpowder your confidence relies on others' words and actions rather than on your own..so the former is my analogy of what spirituality is and the latter is belief and faith

daghan bro...i'll give you two obvious examples:

    - The Bible is taught to be the ONLY absolute truth in the world.
    - That Christianity/Islam is the only religion that can save.

    - Enslaving because religion controls the mind. It imposes fear to those who challenge its doctrines. Example: How many religions today preach that for one to be saved one must be a part of their religion to do so.
