for me...this is more positive than seeing him nailed on the cross. no offense to our catholic brothers here.

But Jesus' image on the cross is actually more positive in the sense that it is the image of our salvation, God becoming man to die for our sins. You can't get any more positive than that.

I take the doctrine about hell very, very seriously, but I'm no fanatic.

Bitaw...nganu kaya wa may mabasa sa Bible bahin kay Christ na nagkatawa? Dead serious man kaayo ang iya outlook didto if not sad. Also the Bible in most cases depicts laughing in parallel with mockery or when people is ridiculing something.

Now can we say laughing is inherently evil? Let's me ask this, what triggers in us to laugh at something? Recall everything that makes you laugh at.

Frankly, I would love a picture of Christ smiling rather than the laughing one...there something wrong in it. Laughing is an outward appearance that is most common nowadays..laughing in the outside while bleeding in the inside. Like some form of despair...the louder the laughter is, it seems the sadder they are really.

Christ could be a deep thinker and most of the time he would be thinking about serious things, not to mention the gravity of the situation of the state of man. Maybe in most time one could see him silent and deep in his thoughts, brooding but nonetheless at peace of himself...We can't judge how happy people are by the loudness of their laughing.

What else can Christ laugh at on this world, come to think of it? What...poverty? materialism? greed? war? etcetera ad nausea...would these things be funny for him? Unless he is the kind that laughs heartily on human tragedy..

Let's respect ourselves and admire each other. We are amazing. You are amazing. You are the mystery of existence made manifest. And you are unique human being with the opportunity to contribute your art to the glorious song of life. There is no one in this world who is greater than you and none lesser. You are a marvel. There are no words adequate to describe all you are.

Lets' stop being so sober and celebrate our existence. Let's stop being so frightened of life and adopt a paranoid perspective. Let's live lightheartedly and revel in the humor of our predicament. Because life is a black comedy so ironic that most of us miss the gags. "God is a comedian playing to an audience too terrified to laugh", as Voltaire quips. So. let's lighten up and enjoy the show. Then we'll understand why the Gnostic Jesus laughs. Because life is funny. But only heretics get the joke.

Have you ever seen a picture of Jesus laughing? Probably not.
